Is your F250 gas or diesel? What year??

I have been been looking into the 2005 F-250/350s.
It dosen't hurt to dream right????

The 5.4 V8s seem like the best choice (for me) with roughly 12-15 mpg.
The 6.0 diesel is tempting but the additional $5100.00 is a lot.
I have been told (by an anxious/ annoying salesperson) I could expect 18mpg with the diesel.
Just wondering...

It's a never ending cycle John.
Month after Month after Month.....etc.

Chris, We have a 95 F350, and a 00 F250 both Crew Cabs. And both diesel. The 95 has 300K and is going to be traded at the end of the summer. I dont ever buy new. Usually buy at 2 years out. Get a good deal and still get to take full depreciation.

John, It looks like business is good. Same here too. We do lots of schools and universities. Spring break is next week, we are already booked to the max. I love this work, not seasonal, no slow times, just real steady, day after day after day.......

Bought me a new toy. Been lookin for a while. Found a guy desperate for some $$. Now the good news is my son is a certified H-D tech. We partnered up on this deal ( my money , his know how). Got it in his shop checking it out right now. Should be on the road in a couple of weeks. New paint and some dressup parts. It started as a 98 Fatboy, and someone put a ridged frame on it, ouch. We are lookin for a softail frame now. But we will ride it for now till that is found. Here is a pic when we picked it up.

Really awesome bike Michael.I hope to have one someday..

The Ford is a f250 2001 with the 7.3 liter Turbo.. It stays on the road mostly.. Right Before my Father in Law left the business he helped pay half on it. Right at this moment it is in Florence Mississippi ...I will get some photos of it for you.. I have to go there tmmorrow and pick up my 16 foot trailer to haul a new vent hood to Senatobia.

What kind of mileage do your diesels get??

Is it realistic to expect better than 15mpg from a diesel??
(Just driving around town - not towing).

BTW - nice toy!

I've got the 5.4 in my f-150 crew and my E-250. Van is lucky to get 11 mpg. I get 12 on the truck with a trailer, and 15 on a good day without. I've thought about going to diesel, but that sticker is a big one. Some one told me they were getting 19-22 mpg, no tow, with the 6.0. I'm not sure if the mpg would really pay off after maintenance and the high sticker. I think it pretty much evens out, just depends on your preference... whether you like diesel fumes better than gas fumes.

Chris, two different trucks. both 7.3L automatic. the 95 F350 has a 4.11 rearend and the 00 F250 has 3.56.
F350 13-15 mpg loaded and towing A/C but dont go over 70 starts to drop fast.

F250 14-16 mpg just runnin around town A/C sometimes I put on the camper(1300lbs) and pull the boat( 5000lbs ) and it will drop to 12mpg. but this is mostly wind resistance. On this truck I run 4" exhaust turbo back, cold air intake, Superchip programer, 285 tires 4X4. So its putting out 100+ more Hp and 150+ more torque. For being souped up it gets good mileage. I have to force myself to drive reasonable. Its kind of cool to smoke the tires on a 6500lb truck.

There is only 500lbs difference between F250 and a F350 The F250 rides much better.

If you want better mileage on a diesel get a Dodge Cummins, they get over 20mpg. But now we enter into the Ford vs Dodge vs Chevy debate. Or you can use used vegi oil, its free and blend it with diesel. Ive done it and it works. Smells weird though.

Josh, I love the smell of diesel LOL

That happens to my guys all the time, I can almost set my watch by it. One of my guys has a big $900 job on Sunday that we just picked up today. I will bet a few bills that he misses the three $200 jobs he has on Monday because he was "so tired" from the night before.

Thanks for the info. As the old saying goes, "everythiing is bigger and better in Texas".

Not sure which direction I want to go. I have a 97 F150 with a small V-8 4.6 now and get about 15mpg. It is getting old and with 170K I am not sure it will last forever.

Have not looked into the Dodge trucks yet..I would be more inclined if they made a REAL crew cab.

I hear you Chris. I have a 2000 F-250 diesel. similar to the truck you showed, except it has teh 7.3 liter. I get a consistent 13 mpg, but I have bigger wheels and tires, and that is with towing my trailer, which at full weight is about 8500 lbs, around through town.
I have a really good friend with an '04 that is getting about 18 without a chip, and it is exactly like that one, except for the yearly update stuff.
I was goig to buy an '05 at teh end of last year, and went on the lot, and could not find one that I liked. They all had the wrong combination of stuff. So I just kept the same truck at 145,000 miles, and will keep plugging.
I also have a 5.4 in an 04 f-250. A stripper work truck. It gets about 13 MPG as well, but it leads a hard life with a lot of idling. (about 2/3s of the time it is usually running, it is idling.)
Just for comparison sake.

Thanks Josh but I want a 250/ 350 crew cab.

Matt needs a truck though -wanna drive it out here and show it to him???
We'll buy you lunch at the chinese restaurant of your choice :)

Florence, MS (that's my home town.. drove through that little town just about every day of my life from 70 through 85. Place has completely changed.

The benefit of an older F250 Diesel is that you can convert it to run off of used cooking oil (just scoop a little out at every sales call). Go to http://greasecar.com. They will convert any diesel into a "bio-diesel" and you'll have unlimted free fuel at every stop.

Who worries about gas milage when you can plant a field of soybeans and grow another tank full.

Sometimes you exhaust will smell like fries, sometimes like asian food, sometimes like fried chicken.

The major difference between the 250 and 350 is simply the suspension and amount of weight it's rated to carry/pull.

Personally, I treated my self to a brand new Nissan Armada. Best truck I've ever owned.

That truck is insane!!
