Cat Pumps are by far the best in my book.

Honda engines are hard to beat.

Are there any better pumps or engines out there?

I like the Honda engines, but I use general pumps because the parts are so much less expensive. CAT is a better all overall pump, but I can repack, with labor, a general pump three times for the price of one CAT repack

how hard is it to repack? What you say makes a lot of sense.

For me it is not hard at all. I can do it in about 25 minutes, and be up and running again.
There are tools that you can use to make it a little easier, a packing removal tool and an installation tool. I do without, but I would really probably be better off if I used them. :p

I learned by watching apressure washer mechanic do it, and had it figured out. FWIW, I can also buy a new General pump cheaper than I can repack a CAT, go figure.

Cat & Kohler

The only way to go. I have a kohler/cat with 2250 hrs and still running with no problems. The key is to change the oil (both) at intervals of 50hrs run time.

You do not have to change the pump oil at 50hrs but for the cost, it cant hurt. Just my two cents.

Where can you buy the tool kit? & o-rings for a particular pump?

I use internal pliers to get the brass out of the head, and good old thumb pressure to install. Grease everything. Cat is the only pump I have to use a special tool on because the brass screws out.

I got strong fingers. If that does ot work, I use a Ford stereo removal tool, basically a piece of wire that has a point on opposing sides, that has a u about 3 inches long. I insert the packing the same way as above.
