The EZ Magnetic Grease Exhaust Ductwork Scraper is perhaps the greatest invention for hood cleaners. It has heavy duty magnets built into a lightweight, machined aluminum base with 4" razor blades held at the perfect angle for duct work scraping.

You can clean pulling up and pushing down and since you don't have to worry about the angle of the scraper, you can get better leverage to thoroughly clean the ductwork from top to bottom.

It uses the JiffyLoc poles which come in lengths from 1 foot to 16 feet. Since the scraper holds itself to the ductwall, it is extremely easy to clean up to 20 feet down the ductwork.

Assuming that you clean 200 hoods with it, it will cost you $1 extra per cleaning.

If you are able to save 20 min per stack, then it might be worth a dollar's investment.

I guess it depends.

I would imagine that if you are lying in a duct, using it to scrape laterals it could be worth it's weight in gold.

I would suggest that this item be made of something like cast iron, rather than something that will have a limited life because of the strong caustics that we use. Aluminum just will have a limited life and at $199. You want it to last. Then again would the mag. work if it was made with anything like iron????

You scrape then spray with chemicals.

Therefore no chemical gets on the scraper.

If it was cast iron, it would be very heavy and taxing on your arms, plus the magnets might not be strong enough to hold it to the ductwork.

That's the beauty of this, when scraping laterals, you can just send it down the ductwork and it holds itself to the ductwork.

You'll have to ask John why he designed it the way he did.

I can tell you it works, and very effectively at that.

If you clean 200 hoods with it, then it's cost your $1 per cleaning. If you clean 400 hoods with it, then it's cost you $0.50 per cleaning.

To me, it's worth it. But I guess if your margin is so close that you are paying your employees and insurance all of your profit, then it might not be worth it.

I scraped cleaned a BK broiler ductwork with it last night right down to bare metal in about 5 minutes. Then spray chemicals and steam clean to rinse everything off and hit the spots that you missed.

You should see the ribbons of grease that fall off as you shave the grease right down to bare metal.

Point taken, however we will spray first so that it will soften and run then scrap-then re-spray. We use down steam injectors to apply the caustic. It is hard to change old ways with crews that have worked together for several years. I think we will buy one just to see.

If you do use it with caustic, you'll just need to make sure that it gets rinsed thoroughly after each use to make sure that no caustic stays on it.

I leave mine sitting on the roof after scraping and then steam clean it and reposition it in it's safety tray.

David did you purchase this scraper, anf if so how did it work

Not yet, just haven't got around to it.
