Where it is required to recover I do, it really isn't as expensive as most people think, it is just a pain.

A vacuboom is ok for most areas but they do have to be monitered occasionally and they take a wile to learn the tricks to making them work best. The easiest and most effective method I found is to have custom drain inserts made and put a sump pump in them, then all you need is a trailer or truck with a tank to haul the water to your shop. Or you can work out a deal with the local car wash to dump the water there. Cleaning their walls once in a while is always a good trade, they usually jump at that.

Paul, first sentence is great, the truth will set you free. I have not heard many guys that recover even admit that its not expensive and its not required all the time.
 
I do when I have to as well. One fleet we wash we put the trucks on a heavy duty tarp and collect all the water from washing, PITA but hey it got us the account. The rest of the time it is sump pumps and water berms.

How detailed do you get in working with a car wash to dump used wash water? Is anything in writing about what is in the water, limits to amount dumped per week, etc. Can a car wash handle most anything a PW'r would dump?

I have contacted one guy here about doing this and he is not too receptive. I am trying to think of a positive approach to take with these guys before I ask anyone else. There is a car wash less than two miles from my house. It would be great if I could get the owner to agree to let me dump.

sump pump

My sump pump sucks because the water has to be too deep for it to work correctly. What kind of pump are you guys using? Where can I find one?
 
Carwashes around me have a pit and seperator. So, that being the case, it would work fine. Of course, I am on the good side of town.

Good side of the Town!!!!!! LOL... have someone follow you with video camera and tape that from a walmart because someones pissed about loosing there job or there property value went down and you become a pawn in there revenge. live at five local PW contrator dumping wally waste water and see how the town stands behind you, way behind you...
 
I do decon for a few electronic companys here in PHX. There facilitys are million dollar plus operations and they used them to clean the electronic parts. Ultra pure water, even this water cannot go back to the ground or the city with out first being treated.

We only clean on hasmat pads. 100% of water less evap is collected. The units will not even leave the pads until dryed completely. Most things are coming from a clean room and pressure while under decon is really not as big as temperature. temperature measures are being taken thru out the process.

In the fleetwash industry which i no longer due many companys had wash pads built. They hardly ever used them.
 
They are not picky at all in Mississippi.. I did have one customer who was real fond of his plants and grass in front of his restaurant he asked me to please not dump dirty water or grease on his property. We took our old 100 gallon water tank with the top cut out and caught 98% percent of the water and goo of the hood and the ran it down the grease trap..When we clean concrete most of the time we use biodegradable degreasers and wash it all down the storm drains.. As far as Mississippi and an AHJ over the control of waste water in Mississippi I don't know.. It does make me wonder if this gets strongly enforced what my cost would be and how to reflect that cost on my previous customers.. Since we use mainly Hot Water and a surface cleaner ..
I don't see to much of a contamination factor.. But you know the EPA they are always coming up with stuff ..
Went to Walmart last night and Red Devil Lye has been pulled off the shelf and so has my favorite Purple Degreaser so it looks like before long we will all be cleaning with just Hot Water.. Anyways I guess I Better go Clean that church Kitchen and stop rambling.......CYALLSOON
