"Duct Spinners"

I don't know if "Duct Spinners" is the proper tech name? I have been looking into buying a duct spinner for some time now and really don't know which size to get. I have a 3000 psi 5gpm Landa. Is there on size that works for all applications? Is this an item that will do all the work or wil I still have to hit the really bad spots. Any help you guys could give will be appriciated

duct spinner

You have the right name. As far as psi size, you can change tips to meet the flow you want. As far as physical size, outside diameter to fit inside the duct. We have 2, a small one about 5" diameter and a larger one about 10" in diameter. The small one will fit in most McD ducts and the other one fit the rest. We have rebuilt ours with heavier cages because the originals are just too flimsy and self distruct. Hope this helps

I mostly use my spinner for places I can't get to normally, therefore there is no going back and hitting the bad spots, My spinner is 6" and I use it mostly in McDonalds duct, the ones that are almost never straight. You may want a bigger one depending on how you plan to use it. If I can use the gun I always do, it seems easier to me. I'm sure someone has a differing opinion.

Oh! While the duct spinner is a very useful tool, it does not do all the work for you. Please let me know if find something that does.

Duct spinners are a wonderful invention.
I remember about 10 years ago how excited I was when we bought one and used it for the first time.
The ductspinner's effectiveness depends on the size of the duct, the type of grease and the location of the sprinkler heads.
You can buy the correct tips for your machine.

Of course the spinners are not a "magic pill" and nothing can replace old fashion elbow grease-no pun intended.:D

Thanks guys

All the input has helped me make up my mind. I"ll be ordering one very soon. One other question, is there a certain make or brand name that is better than the others?

It looks liek a sprinkler that is in an exhaust vent. Heck if I know how it can operate messed up like that.

Look beyond the sprinkler head, I'm looking at what looks like a rotating nozzle on the end of a wand, just not sure.
You don't look in many grease ducts do you? lol

That's a sewer jetter nozzle - everybody stand back - don't know how fast that thing's traveling.

Regarding the duct spinner, try E-Spec, Del-o or whoever you feel gives the best value. Mosmatic spinners pretty much rule the stacks!

This is a picture of our Duct Spinner. We used a 1/2" rotating union (stainless) and it has a grease fitting.

The ends are rounded so it will slide over interior supports. We use the hook on the end to pull it through long runs using a plumbers tape (strap). Pull on the hose to one direction and the strap to go the other. We have done 75-100 foot runs of horizontal using this method.

We apply degreaser and rinse with the spinner. We use our truck mounted pump when we can or small 1500 psi pumps when necessary.

The spinner works great, but we will use wands if we can. Lotta work setting up to clean a duct with a spinner but sometimes it is the only way it can be done!

Chris is that a rotary duct nozzle from delco and is it on a wand or a hose?

Bryan,

It is on the end of a hose and is is similar to a sewer nozzle.
It does not rotate by itself - you just rotate the hose back and forth.

A lot of those rotating spinners aren't good for smaller ducts with sprinklers inside.

We run into a lot of ducts with sprinklers in them.

Not sure where we bought it. Matt probably know.

Wow! I never thought of a non-rotating sewer nozzle! For the occasional need we have that seems like it would work well. Anyone know of a source for a Q/D nozzle like that?

I was thinking a rotating nozzle on the end of a wand would work for the bottom of a McDonalds duct.

Here is a picture of the Mosmatic Non Adjustable duct cleaner / spinner.

Chris,

.".....It does not rotate by itself - you just rotate the hose back and forth. "

I think you'll find it used to spin, but has frozen up from chemical or rust damage. Great picture!
