Hello Russ S,

We use a sodium metasilicate based degreaser on petroleum-based oil spots/stains and potassium hydroxide based degreaser on animal or vegetable type oil and grease spots/stains.

We pre-treat the heavy areas with the degreaser using a canister type air sprayer. We go over all of the area with a surface cleaner and then chase all of that with a wand to get any gum and sweep the trash. We use dual #4 or 5 tips in the surface cleaner and a 1508 or 1510 tip in the wand. We try to maintain 180 to 200-degree water temperature at 3000 psi.

Exactly what chems are sodium metasilicate based? The degreaser we're using is Hotsy's Ripper 2 which is sodium hydroxide based. We're looking for an alternative for petroleum-based oil spots/stains. Thanks for the help.

thats the same thing i am using matt ,mine is sodium hydroxide based and i am not getting the desired results out of it but i cant afford to experiment on a contract ,the customers are happy with what i am doing but i want it too look even better.
i would like to know who the manufactures are that sell sodium metasilicate based degreasers

That's one of the joys of being in this business. I love the satisfaction of doing the job to the best of my ability.

I've tried running a search for chems with the sodium metasilicate base but havent found anything yet.

He guys Dave Olsen know his stuff, great advice. just be careful around newly resealed asphalt. This chemical will damage on contact.

anytime using caustics dont over do them. wet and let the chemical dwell and simply wash away.

acids are the oposite end of this scope. they do not work as well on grease but will do a good job on almost everything else. you need acids that do work like muratic. these types of acids do not have inhibitors in them.

sodium medicil is very in expensive and can purchased much cheaper than all other chemicals.
