hey does anyone have a good idea for a device to block storm drains we do some washing where i have block off storm drains that lead to streams please let me know what you guys are useing thanks

water fillable bladders are very reliable, and when used with a shop-vac with pump out set up (or sump pump) you can virtually eliminate all storm drain runoff.

where do you get em
and thank you for your info i apprecate it very much

Check at your local pool supply store as well. I have foud some great water bladders there.
Also if the drain is steel you can meausre it and then go to a place like FASTSIGNS and buy a peice of magnetic sign that can go down over the drain and block it.

Good luck

I stole this one from Scott. Take 2" pool drain hose (you can buy 50' of the stuff for $20) cut off a length, put water in it, fold over and clip off the ends with either those big black paper clips or heavy plastic ties. It's also a very good idea and works better for me to fill them with sand. I've got them cut into 12' lengths. I'm told that you can get this kind of hose in 4" as well and I'm looking for it.

what do you do about the water that goes over the bladder? or how do you stop it from flowing over the top

I'm only using these bladders to catch water that gets off of the wash rack I'm working on and I use them mainly to divert water from where I DON'T want it to go. Almost all the time evaporation takes care of it before it gets to the drain. If I was working off of that pad with a constant flow of water heading for the ditch I'd most certainly have to recover it.

The water that lays on the asphalt and concrete is "legal", but once it hits the dirt there's a compliance inspector waiting for me by my truck with clipboard in hand. By legal I mean that the entire area has to be wetted down and swept with a Tenant Sweeper at the end of each day. That satisifies their need for compliance with the California Rainwater Runoff rule.

Once you get their attention it's tough to shake them off.

If water reaches the bladder/drain, you better pick it up one way or another. Thats were the sump pump or vac comes in. I pick it up with a sump which pumps the water into a 2 stage filtering system, which then pumps the 'clean filtered' water into a empty barrel, which I haul off.
