I service one food shelter unit in Sacramento free of charge. This changed when they demanded service for free - I told them to find someone else-then on top of that they required that I pay for security of my trucks while at the kitchen. I do not deal well with this mind set.

What could I say that y'all haven't already said . I'm not too much for posting comments , but I gain bountifuls of info from y'all and it's been a blessing .
Chairity is what is in your heart without thinking about it . You do it 'cause it's the right thing to do .

In Canada ( I don't know the ruling in the USA) you only have to give 10% of the proceeds to the charity and the rest can be claimed as administrative costs, in order to be classified as a charity.
I try and do one goodwill job a month for someone in need.
MY CHOICE.
If they call me looking, probably not.
Help usually belongs to those trying to help them selves. Not cynical, just careful in where and who I choose. Usually the little old ladies or gents.

Thanks for your donations

You guys are already donating to more charities than you may realize. I came into this forum completely clueless, and thanks mainly to your willingness to discuss valuable knowledge openly, you've helped me get to a point where I believe I can do this if I keep at it and keep learning. You're helping me make a living and support my family. If that's not donating to a worthwhile charity then I don't know what is. I hope to return the favor someday. Thanks.

I cleaned the hood at a local homeless shelter last year for free, (my idea not theres). I took my 9 year old son with me and he still talks about it and remembers those people in his prayers every night. That is much more valuble to me than the $$ I would have charged for the cleaning.

Sure, I'd donate my services to a homeless shelter (I lived in a homeless shelter in Sacramento for a few weeks as a young teenager!) but mainly at this point just for rookie practice. If I'm doing it for free I'd expect them to be more patient or understanding than a commercial account paying for and expecting top notch service. I'm going to offer my services to a few church kitchens in the area for free practice too. I'll be honest with them. I've found a few restaurants that are willing to let me practice, knowing I'm just starting out. I figure it's better to do it for free, for practice, than to offer a low price they may come to expect. Once I know what I'm doing I'll charge the full amount normal for my area. I feel strongly against low balling. I don't want to get into the trap of trying to win business on price.

They Sold For As High As $14 In Catalogs.i Suggested They Try To Market For $5.or Whatever. The Beauty No Upfront Cost To Them.i Was Advised They Could Not Accept, Because It Might Be Offensive To Some Girls.the Design Was A Simple Wreath. No Baby Jesus In The Middle, No Words, Nothing. Sometimes Things Can Sour You For A While. Hell Maybe I'll Go Clean Up The Rocks From The Oil Spill On Alcatraz.dan

We painted drug rehab offices last year with our PDCA group. One advantage of belonging to an Organization. We all worked together, materials donated and everyone happy. Our business looks for some needy family each year to help them. It's part of business and being part of the community. Thank You.

good call.
