I often hunt in a Tilley or a tilley lightweight, but usually don't wear one to wash. I've noticed that as I'm getting older, I can't take as much time in the sun as I could as a kid. I get tired faster, and headachy. I don't really burn easily. I have, however, been able to watch my old Pappy get little cancers removed from his head and neck every couple of months for years.

That has attracted my attention to sunscreen in a whole new way.

When I'm washing, I usually wear a ballcap. Usually a Nebraska red one. Around here, there are some rabid fans that can't stand you wearing another team's gear.

If I'm washing overhead, I'll wear a cheapo imitation boony hat or something similar. I also usually go with actual goggles rather than safety shades then too.

There is nothing nice about bleach in your eyes or on the melon!

....and you've got a cranial endowment of around eight and three-quarters too, if I remember correctly??

I posed this question on PWI about five years ago, and you put me onto Tilley hats, said they were able to fit a superior-sized head. I still haven't got one, but every time I see them at REI or somewhere I think of that thread!!

I personally hate wearing hats, but I've let my hair grow out long now and I'll put on a company ballcap in the morning if I don't shower. Just wear it long enough to get rid of "bed head" and give me "cap head", and then I'm done with it. I do like to wear a Co. stocking cap in the winter, though. Scott, I get my hats at: www.bigheadcaps.com You might check them out if you want to get a Co. hat that you can embroider, that will actually fit.

Big Head Scotts!

hahahaha "big head Scott" thats funny .... oh wait I wear a 7 3/4

I wear a 7 & 3/4 myself. Sounds about right: 5' 6" tall, Inseam 30", weigh about 220#...a man of average stature.

Fife, if you wear a Tilley one time in wind, you'll never have one missing from your outdoor kit again. They use fore and aft straps (like drill sergeants' hats) and the thing will not come off in a hurricane. Keeps your eyes clear in rain, too.

Get the lightweight though, unless you are out in actual cold (like stocking-cap weather) because the standard Endurable is a hot hat.

100% uv protection!

How 'bout this for a great band name: Big Head Scott and the Washers?:D

Just a Little Different...

Yeah, Russ, I'm a butterball these days. I gotta get back down to a respectable weight, or i gotta grow a couple inches taller!

I belonged to a gym for a few years, but never once entered the weight room. I went there for steam, mostly. Now I'm wishin' that had been a little more inspiring, then.

Friends of mine used a different path to get into your kind of shape, but it usually involved staying on state property for a few years.;) I guess I'll have to rejoin the gym, and actually USE it this time.

I recently got back into the gym. Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and Intro MMA. Soreness everytime I leave a woorkout. I love it. Trying to get back into shape. Cleaning with chems has softened me. PW isn't really hard work once you have right chems and equipment. ;)

yes ball hat also. I also have a hat that has a fan in the brim. It is powered by the sun. Got it from QVC Great when it is hot out.

I wear the knockoff brands from Academy since I either lose 'em or bleach 'em.
I have a soft-brimmed one that floats and a big stiff-brimmed one right now.

7 and 7/8's I used to be as big as some of you guys, but the Doc came and said that I was too naturally sweet and needed a more sour disposition, so I lost about 70 lbs 3 years ago. I still got a really fat head.
I love the Tilly's and am a religious wearer. The only time I don't is when I want to listen to my ipod. I wear headphones that are rated at 29 db for noise isolation, and it works great, except I have to wear a ball cap, instead. I even wear them when I am working at night, so it is really an ingrained habit.

Oh and for the record,
32 waist
30 inseam
44 jacket.

200 lbs. at 5'10"

I wear a boonie hat religously when washing and a ball cap logoed when not washing. I also always earplugs when washing fleets.
