Do you have a good pair of boots? Tell us about them....

I have these redwings I wear. They are about two years old now. Worx by redwing. They are made of a fiber mesh material and have worked very well. I also have a boot warmer which drys them overnight. I was going through the leather ones every year with all of the chemicals and water. I see a lot of guys wearing the rubber boots which I have, but I don't like wearing them. Especially not on a roof or a ladder. I wanted to also comment on the photos I see from time to time (I can't remember where and especially don't know who) where the pro is wearing a pair of sneakers. A good pair of boots with a heel will save you from slipping on your ladder. I use to be a catv installer, we climbed poles sometimes 30-50 per day at a fast pace and I know of many times a guy would slip through the ladder and his leg would get caught breaking the leg. I mean a bad break like you see when a guy fall down a mountain or something on tv and the bone is sticking out. Wear boots with heels guys and gals.

You guys with employees should really be emphasizing your requirement for proper boots with heels.

I've got Redwings too. I like the fit, I like the GoreTex, but they, too are wearing down at the heel. I guess I should reexamine that practice of walking on the back of my heels all the time. :)

After having good luck with Danner Military boots Chris is now trying some other Gore-Tex Military boots that are cheaper to see how they do. The caustic eats the leather up.

We need heels too. We are on ladders and hatches a lot.

Are they comfortable (Muck Boots)?

Depends what your feet can handle. For me if I have several jobs at night and I'm bouncing around its not a big deal. If I have one big job and have to wear them all night my feet get a little sore.
To others it might not be a big deal though.

Where do you buy those?

Regular rubber boots are too tight on my calf, they cut the circulation off so I have to cut about 4" or 5" off the top of rubber boots so I can wear them, I have not found any rubber or water proof boots that would fit over my calf and not cut off circulation.

At the refinery they got me some of the fire-fighter boots that were steel toe and they fit but no clue what they cost to purchase, I need to look into that.

Right now I have been buying the rubber boots at the Home Depot concrete section, cut the tops off and they will last me about 4 to 6 months then time for a new pair as the soles wear out due to the chemicals and working on concrete, dirt and gravel and start leaking.

Tractor Supply has some really great rubber boots with great arch support and a steel shank ,they are pretty comfortable and last a good while.

Chris, I have the same problem. Muck boots work great. I put some good insoles in them, and they last me a long time.

Thanks.

The CEO of TSC is a customer of mine.

I like that my redwings have aluminum toes, they are stylish, comfortable, don't crack like leather, roof safe, ladder safe, hold up well to the caustic and keep my feet dry.

Well, the verdict is in on the military gore-tex boots. They are really durable and remain waterproof even when there's a big hole in the leather. That's a big deal if you are walking around in an inch of caustic runoff.

You can get them on Ebay new for less than $100. One guy working for me wears 16w. I just got him a pair for $90. If it lasts like the ones I've been getting Chris and Shelly he should have them for a long time.
