Do I need a water tank

Hi ya'll,

im just getting started w my business and plan on getting a 5.5 gpm machine and dont have a tank yet. can i use a home's water source or do i need a water tank?

65 or 100 gallon is better. You lose 10-15 gallon capacity because of the float valve (you need that too).

i only have a truck no trailer so space is an issue. i want to also have room for chem tank machine etc. would 65 gal would definately be enough?

65 will get you by 99% of the time. I have a 100 and once in a blue moon a customer will be running multiple things in the house and the water can't keep up. You will have to stop and let the tank fill. Almost all the time the tank will be full while you are cleaning. When you are almost done, turn the water off and run the tank down to right above the bulkhead fitting. You will need 1 inch hose, fittings, a y strainer/filter, ball valve, some other stuff. Do some reading there are a lot of threads that show a setup.

Even with a 200 gallon tank you will need to use the home's water source.

The only thing that matters is what is the gallons per minute flow at your customers? If the worst 20% of your clients can still provide 6 gpm in your market, then you can get by with really small float tank. About 90% of our customers have 6 to 8 gpm, most of the rest are right about 4 to 6 gpm, and then a small percentage (mostly windsor heights) has about 2 to 3 gpm. One of our vehicles has a 15 gallon float tank and the other has a 100 gallon float tank. I don't schedule jobs in windsor heights for the first vehicle. And even the 100 gallon tank would run out on bigger jobs in Windsor heights.

With the size of your pressure washer I would recommend a tank, but if you are driving a 1/2 ton truck your options are very limited.

i have a 2003 toyota tundra v8 s5r. payload is 1800 and bed is 76.5x61

Will i need a trailer or can i get by w just the truckbed of the vehicle i have w maybe a 65 gal tank plus a 35 gal tank for the chemicals?

Really depends if you want to always be driving your equipment with you even if your not working?

You running heat on the pressure washer? Changes the weight by a couple hundred pounds easily. You have about 450-500lbs = driver + fuel + fluids. Pressure washers with heat run 400-700lbs, cold about 150 lbs not including your fuel weight. You have probably thought this all out, just trying to size your water tank with the weight capacity you have left assuming you are not having passengers.
