It is definently an addiction and I am an addict!!
A few years ago everytime something new came out, at least one of the guys had to get the newest thing and rub it in our faces. I'm a lefty so for me to try them I had to buy them. Because of that I tried Cobra, Ping (old ones), Ping (newer ones), Taylor Made and Calloway. Most of them ended up on craigslist after a while but I kept going back to the old Pings.
The last new set I bought was Calloway X-20 a couple of years ago. Now
I've only got a couple of sets now and last year I only played with the Ping Zings. I can hit them better than any of the others.
Unless they come up with technology that straightens out your swing I think I've now got with the set I'm going to play in Heaven with.
Callaway Driver (I have a 2yr old one now)
Ping Fairway woods (about 10 yrs old)
Ping Zing Irons (over 20 years old
Titleist Vokey Wedge (new)
Don't laugh - Carbite Polar Balance Putter (about 5 yrs old)
What's funny is this set is not a lot of money. Shelly's got a Scotty Cameron putter thats worth almost as much as my entire set!
It doesn't take a lot of money to play golf if you do it right. After4 pm most of the year you can walk for $6.00 on the one close to my house.
I met a kid who grew up across the street from the course. He had an old wooden driver about the size of a walnut, two BLADE irons and a putter. No bag, he just carried them in his hand. He joined us and shot
par. He said he played at least twice a week for $6 or less since he was 8 yrs old.
I think golf at least twice a month should be required law. (oops, Shelly just popped me in the back of the head for that one.)
