Deposits

What does everyone do as far as deposits on large jobs. Usually I require a %20 deposit on jobs over $10,000 for new customers.

Reason I ask is I am submitting a MASSIVE bid right now and I didnt know what to require as far as a deposit....

I would want whatever it is i had to lay out up front such as Lift, Chemicals, etc plus 10%..

Out here we cannot collect more than 10% or $1,000...whichever is the most from a contract prior to starting.

Also, we are required by law to give a customer a 3-day right to cancel clause in our contracts....

Man...I wish I could collect 20-30%.......

So get creative. They have a 10% deposit, up to $1,000.00, and the cost of the lift rental is charged to their CC.:)

20% prior to start on large jobs.

Unfortunately, some larger companies cannot or are not wiling to give deposits. Including large Cities and large businesses, it appears they will not give you a deposit on a contractual agreement for work to be done.

Infact some will pay 2 to 3 months after the invoice is submitted. If you add any late penalties and or extra fees, they will just ignore them. I have seen some companies push for their fees and they get the extra pay only to find themselves on a black list for any future work.

Based on our experience, if you can get the 20% ...GREAT! If not... don't push it. Get the agreement in a strong worded contract and go forward.
