Damn Snow

We have had three snow storms since Friday night, we got some work done Sunday between storms, but have basically been shut down. We got plowed out only to have it drift over again. Looks like we are going to miss another nights work. The temperature is in the twenties today, the first time it was out of the teens since early last week. Any of you warmer climate guys looking for help, I think I'm ready to move. LOL
Snow just isn't what it was when I was younger!

Look at the positive side. Snow diminishes the competition, eliminates roof cleanup, reduces traffic, hides a multitude of runoff errors, gives you an excuse if you want to reschedule, allows you to beg for food with impunity, guarantees that management will not inspect the roof, and allows you to give all the sloped roof jobs to your lowball, lowlife competitors. It has never hindered us - we LOVE the snow - bring it on!

We had an ice storm and then snow. I've been shut down for 3 days, probably could've pushed it at 2 days, but I took advantage of the reschedule:D. I'm gonna try working tonight, since the temperatures got above freezing and we had a little sunshine to melt off a little.
 
Last day I worked was when we had the rain and then the snow.

Worked while it rained, sat around until one a.m. for a job that I knew I would not get home. (we had black ice and six inches of fresh snow by morning) I am about a week out as we speak on jobs. It has not been above twenty at night to work, that is my cut-off point.

p.s. Had a call for a house wash and a concrete slab clean, that needs to be done by Sunday. This could get pricey:eek:
 
It sprinkled here in California for about 10 minutes yesterday...No reschedules though!
 
Funny Grant, we are in the process of completing some jobs tonight.
 
I use 20 as my cut-off as well, although I've went into the mid teens quite a few times. It seems that everything gets a lot harder to do after 20 degrees. Put on some ice skates for the concrete slab:D.

Some of the guys up north work into the singles. I guess if they didn't they'd be taking about 2 months off over the winter.

It would sure be nice to work in Southern California.
 
This time of the year I work for a friend who is a trade show contractor in nyc.He goes crazy this time of year,tons of trade shows .We worked 44 hours straight with a few cat naps,in the snow,got home this morning,going back tonight,willprobably work through to monday.He has 14 trucks and bills out$95 per hour,per truck and driver.He pays me $30 an hour and it's not hard work,just time consuming.It can take 2 hours for 4 guys and a fork lift to unload one truck with trade show crates,gotta love that union labor they don't move too fast when they're making $60 an hour on overtime,everything comes off with a fork lift,so the other 4 guys stand around and b.s. drinking coffee,bitching that they need a raise.I guess that's why it costs
$15,000 for a 10x15 foot space for three days for a trade show display,I think we're in the wrong business! I try to avoid going over there ,but he is a good friend,and he is slammed with work.I gotta get a lap top for all those hours sitting in the truck,waiting for the "workers" to unload the trailer,over a hundred tailers to be done by Monday .

I know this does not pertain to hood cleaning,it's just sucks doing any type of work in cold weather,except maybe...... plowing....... beat you to it Mike!

I have seriously been thinking about a move to Nevada (some family there) or Arizona.

We have worked a few nights with single digit temp's. Funny thing is once you get heated up the grease comes off the fan easier when it is cold .

Seriously, so glad not to be in a cold weather state. I was in Milwaukee this summer, I think they have more restaurants per capita than any other city, but we could never stand the winters. Moved away 26 years ago, and still don't miss the snow!

I have to be honest with you ,I think I would miss the changing of the seasons.I just hate working out in the cold.I realize the warmer states are inundated with pressure washers and landscapers, Florida,Arizona,California,Texas etc..I think this year I will work my butt off spring ,summer,and fall and take the winter off,and maybe just sell restaurant equipment on ebay.I have two tractor trailers ,and a small building full of nice equipment I have been buying up over the last few years.The restaurant equipment thing is like my stock market ,I buy one piece,to whole restaurants .I used to be a distributor back in the late 80's,so I pretty much know what sells and what to buy..I sell other stuff too.cars,boats, motorhomes.I am an ebay fanatic!!!!
