Considering joining the Air Force.

So ... I've been thinking about it for a while, and in the next 6 months or so I will try to join the Air Force. By try I mean if they let me.

The only thing that's holding me back is my wife and 3 kids (2 biological, 1 step-daughter).

The Air Force does not like it if you have more than 2 dependents (1 wife, 1 kid) however, they do have Dependency Waivers which I would have to talk to a recruiter about if I can even have one of those, or if I am even eligible, if not, then I guess no military for me.

But until then, I've been starting to work out and run about 4 times a week. Im so out of shape it's not even funny. In the AF you're supposed to run 1.5 miles in under 11:57 seconds .... right now I can't even barely run 0.5 miles at a time, lol.

Is anybody else around here in the AF, or retired, that could give me some pointers?

Thanks!

I did my stint in the AF back in the early 80s...............its not the military...............youll do fine.

I did a stint in the USAF. Really, don't sweat the physical aspect of it. You run the 1.5 in formation . Running like that, makes it a lot easier. Heck, I walk 1.5 in 30 min. every morning now. The mental stress is more to deal with. Having someone tell you how to dress, how to talk, when to talk, when to smoke, when to shizz. etc. You will have a T.I. in tour face, be prepared to respect him or you will have trouble. Lester

I agree.... Thanx for wanting to serve but this is a very relaxed part of the "military". I'm sure if your educated enough your in.

Just be prepared to take a little poking from the branches that workout and run in full BDU and ruk.

If I had it to do again i would have went the Air Force route 2. Good luck.
