Composite deck issue after cleaning

Anyone ever have a problem with remaining residue left after cleaning a composite deck? Used a blend of s&h and detergent.compdeck1.jpgcompdeck2.jpg

Looks like weathering to me, because the second pick has that perfect spot where something was sitting and isn't worn there. If it was your mix, it would have stained there as well.

I hate the brow and tan ones. Had one a couple years ago that the coloring all started to fade as we cleaned it. Mild solution and no pressure and it still looked like dog doo. The colored ones do fade in the sun and from weathering. Not much ya can do about it.

I would agree but the white haze turned up after the cleaning.

Let me ask you a question Larry. Does that discolored stuff rub off and did you do a spit test? Was the composite material pre wet before thee onslaught of bleach? Do you think the color can come back by friction ?

It was 2 years ago. No I didn't spit on it. No it wasn't rubbing off. No I didn't per wet. And I have no clue where your going with the friction theory. I do however remember her saying that she had contacted the manufacturer about discolorations not long after it was installed.

How about before pics? Could of been oxidized before cleaning, but wasn't noticeable till after the cleaning. How dirty was it?

That's hard to tell. Could of been oxidized under that grime.

I was thinking the same thing Chris...now what to do about it. Customer isn't happy. They believe it was from the cleaning.

Larry , I didn't mean to say Larry ,Larry .

Check out the product name. Then check out cunsumer complaints for defects.how old was it , never been cleaned before and so forth. I cleaned a law suit one last year.

Probably have to get them to understand that if it was from the cleaning, it would of done it on the spot that had something sitting there. Neglect of the deck caused it, cleaning exposed it. Good luck.

So I asked the customer who manufactured the decking amterial and they told me it is Timbertech. Thought I would see if anyone has known of a similar issue with oxidation.

Never use bleach on composite wood it will fade it out and show the fibers

We don't use straight bleach on decks. It's roughly about a cup per gallon of water with some surfactant mixed in. Never an issue for us in cleaning composite decks.

Geezers Xmas batman! Pastic degrades in the sun and weather! There is a ton of bad batches of plastic that degrade fast . There is no way what you did produced the results. I've cleaned thousands of square feet of composite crap and the stronger the bleach the better the result .

Plastic degrades and the quality of material is terrible!

Yeah Jim, I am going with the earlier posted comments that the surface has either oxidized (faded). Espeically since it isn't noticible where they had placemat and grill mat down. What do you use to clean Jim?

If you say so! Bleach is very bad for the composite. It's not only plastic hint the name, trex does have the upper line that is plastic.

Your before photo the wood looks good, the afters the color has been damaged. We have seen homeowners locally that have done this. Even when we clean a home that has a composite deck we have to change out cleaning methods to not harm the deck

I have seen he same, Matthew. I never use bleach on composite either.

On something like that, try some penetrol. Some plastics tend to leach the oils over time and penetrol will probably remove that haze. I have used it on faded shutters to bring back the color and it the last time I looked at a shutter that was done with that, it was 6 months old and got direct sun from sunrise until about 3:30 pm. You can get it in the paint department in Lowes or Home Depot.
