Cold Water Systems

I'm just curious but how many people are using Cold Water Systems? It's what I have.

But if you use or have used Cold Water what are some tips you can give. If there are any.

Maybe A Hot Box.. Or Good Chemical. I cleaned buffal wild wings sidewalk the first time with a cold machine and a 30 inch surface cleaner and about 8 gallons of bleach.. looked great but it took 4 hours.. Last week I used the same surface cleaner , my whitco machine / with hot water 3000psi@4gpm 210 degrees hot water and no bleach I was thru in 2 hours flat still looked good..
This is just me but I Like the Hot Water ...

But hey I'm a hood Cleaner what the hell do I Know LOL...

I would get a northern tool hotbox for about a $1000 and try it and see ... Hot Water makes a big difference..

What is a Hot Box

What is a Hot box? I tried looking on Northern's website but could not locate it. How does it work?

Also I could understand on Houses how Hot water would be better. Or that dramatically better. But I don't see how it could make that much of a difference on Concrete drives. I clean them with my 16" driveway cleaner pretty quickly. Unless you can Sprint using a Hot Water system I don't see how it could be done faster.

Now don't get me wrong. I do believe you. But it's beyond me.

Are there any specific chemicals you would recomend for pressure washing. On Painted wood, and vinyl houses I use bleach. It works real well for me. But for cleaning brick I feel like I need more. I've been messing with Muriatic Acid on driveways and I felt like I had some good results. But I need to compare it to a bleaching to see the true effect.

I haven't planned on fleet washing either. But I will be washing my buddy's box truck and if others come up to me wanting me to do theirs I would be foolish to turn down work.

But appreciate the advice. If you can find a hotbox on the internet for me so I know what it is link it to me please.

Appreciate it.

I actually might be able to get a good deal on a Hot Water system. My friends father has 1 at his shop that I want to try out. The only problem is it is Electric. But I think I can get a good deal on a Generator from a friend. So I might be able to rig something up until I can get enough money for a proper set up.

For now though I'll kick it with the Cold Water system. It works well and I'm not in any rush.

A hot box is a high ppressure water heater that is fed from your cold water machine. You hose and wand then hook to the hotbox

Things generally clean better with hot water (ie: wash half your dinner dished in cold water and half in hot - see which clean easier). I dont use hot water very much on most of my house wash jobs... It is necessary to get gum off of sidewalks and It is excellent for cleaning grease spots.

One is a base and the other is an acid... be careful with both, they can react dangerously with different chemicals and damage different surfaces.

Hope this helps

I remember looking at the Hotwater system today. It looks like it has a 120plug. I figured it would be 220 or more. The generator I'm looking into does have the power. It is also capable of 220. The Power Plant is a 13hp Honda Motor. I don't know if it has the ability to power say a 220 Mig Welder. Or a high quality mig welder at that. But I know that thing can power a trailer with A/C, Microwave, Compressor, and other electronic goodies.

I'm not going to sell my current equipment in hopes that this thing will replace it. It would be more of an intro to Hot Water type deal. Or something I would use for Fleet washing.

MJ. I know the Dangers (And sometimes fun) in mixing chemicals. Working in a Machine shop I learned some interesting lessons of what works with what.

LOL, I lost my first job as a dishwasher (30 years ago) because of my lack of chemical knowledge - I had a clogged drain in the restaurant I was working at on a friday night - Well just so ya know.... dont try to open it with drano, bleach and ammonia.... THe customers were real mad when the restaurant was evacuated in the middle of dinner hour.... THe owners were even madder.

The fire department found it amusing

Smittie, there's no way a generator with a 13 hp is large enought to start a capacitor start motor. A 1.5 hp (about the smallest useable machine) will only draw 15 amps running, but needs a flash of about 75 to 90 amps to get it started. The only wat to start a motor of this size is with a 9,000 to 10,000 watt generator.

Well it turns out that the Generator that I was looking into is now fried.

MJ. What gets really fun is when you work at a Machine shop and start learning about Gasses. 1 fun example is mixing acetylene and oxygen into a balloon. Then setting it on fire. I have a digital video of it but I don't know how to put videos on the internet. Or another cool thing is just putting acetylene into a baloon. When you light that one off it looks like a nuclear bomb. With the Mushroom cloud and all. Infact I wouldn't be suprised if that is how they get some of their special effects in those movies.

I almost learned the hard way about Gasses when I tried to screw in Acetylene thinking it was Argon into a welder. Luckily they reversed the threads for that purpose.

But you better be careful with this stuff because like Chemicals Gasses can get you hurt real fast.
