Cleaning Porous Brick?

I'm new to the Business. So I'm trying to learn what I can here and there.

When I clean houses & Driveways I normally use Bleach. But for Brick it doesn't always work as well.

I bought this chemical from a Pressure washing store in Georgia and he told me it works great for brick. It is called "Wild Dog". I was told it works like Muriatic Acid but isn't as harsh. Well I tried it on a friends house and it did not make that much of a difference. If any at all. I noticed there was this blackish looking stuff inside the pores of the wall below windows and near a A/C unit. I could not even come close to budging it.

I was wondering about Muriatic Acid but need to know what Mixture rate to use. Or how much to add to a 5gallon bucket.

Is there any other kind of chemical or technique to use for cleaning very porous brick?

Any help is appreciated.

Are you cleaning new construction brick or old existing brick? This will make a difference in what chemical to use. On new construction with mortar smears and tags we use NMD80 by EacoChem. It is extremely versatile.....won't etch glass or other metals, won't harm painted surfaces and it can be used on ANY type brick. On the other hand, if you're cleaning old brick, an acid is not even necessarily needed.

Feel free to give us a call or email if you have any questions :)

The brick house is an old house. It is located in Statesboro, Georgia near Georgia Southern University. It's about 40 miles to Savannah and I believe the Saltwater effects houses this far inland.

I don't know when the house would have been built. I assume post 1950s.

I do have a picture of the brick. It is inside the house. It was formally a car port which has been transformed into a pool room. So the outside is much different. But maybe it can give you an Idea of the Brick.

Also I must apologize but it is the only pictures of the Brick I could find.

Smittie, I can't view your pics for some reason (or any others on this bbs for that matter). I'd love to see them, not only for the brick, but also, I hear my daughter (who is in college) talking about beer pong all the time! Can you attach them in an email to me? carolinaprowash@triad.rr.com

What's on the floor of this room - still concrete from the car port?

There are brick restoration acids available - Eacochem, Diedrich and Rowlett Pressure Cleaning - that might take care of your problem. Atmospheric dirt can get embedded over the years and it takes an acid to properly clean up. Our personal preference for brick is to stay away from the "straight" muriatic....which is why we use a prepared brick cleaner (still generally muriatic based) but tempered with some detergents and surfectants.

You must be an open family. If I had a daughter I'd flip if she started telling me about Beerpong.

Here is a link to the page. Statesboro Beer Pong

If that doesn't work just go to www.geocities.com/smittie61984 or type it in. Then go to where it says "Pictures" then you'll end up at a "Yahoo Picture Page" and go to the bottom where it says "Statesboro Blues". It will be the one with a funnel.

By the way. I am the beerpong master. Undefeated.
