Cleaning Canvas Awnings.

Customer has two patio awnings that are green and dirty. Will a diluted mix with SH and laundry detergent do the trick here, or will that bleach out the fabric? Anybody with experience with this. I did an awning two weeks ago and used my regular HWM with no problems, but I think the material was nylon or polyester or something. I'm pretty sure this is a canvas awning.
Did a search and found a bunch of threads on awnings. A lot of vague advice. I will just test a house wash mix and see what happens.

If the customer wants them to last for a long time, and you can up sell it- I would recommend cleaning with soap made for that material and if its fabric, applying a waterproofing sealer. If they are vinyl then adding a protectant helps them shine again and prolongs there life from uv damage.

If they are just some old cheap awnings, I would just test my HW.

I read SH can harm the fibers in the awning, over time not immediately. Does anyone have mix they use just for awnings that clean but don't damage them?

The problem with using less aggressive cleaners, such as Sodium Percarbonate on canvas awnings lies with the owner of the awning,..they wait so long to have them cleaned that using a mild cleaner like Sodium Percarbonate goes out the window. They wait until they are so bad that there's is little to no choice but to use SH to some degree. And I'm not gonna struggle with too weak of cleaners for the job at hand,..I just use SH responsibly and have any issue with it on a professional or moral level.

Kris every time I touch an awning with SH I get a little nervous and hold my breath but like Jeff said you need it to some degree. And after cleaning quite a few awnings I've never had a single problem using SH.
