Cleaning Aluminum Bleachers

A local school wants me to figure out a way to clean their one year old new bleachers. I was told that they have tried to use their power washer on it using "just some soap" and it didn't even start to clean. I am going to set up and try a few things on it but it is going to be a pain in the butt just to get set up where I can reach it so I want to have some ideas to try out. I was planning on first trying just some hot water to see if it helped at all. My next thought was if I could use my classic on it without damaging it. Not sure if a house wash mix would help either.
Open to suggestions, heck I even wondered about some fleet wash chemicals.
Thanks guys.

A little bit of sh and Butyl based Sodium Hydroxide mix ds'ed should knock out those stains. Also check with Daniel Hopson ( Cleaner Image) He does Bristol Speedway.

Go easy on the sh though and make sure you rinse it down real well.

Hey Larry I use Caustic Soda for grease and I use F-13 for gutters. Is F-13 a butyl based sodium Hydroxide? I thought that caustic soda beads was sodium hydroxide. I am guessing that I have been thinking wrong ey?
I was wondering if a really strong on the F-13 "wild cherry" mix would cut it.
I have no Idea what all is in F-8 F-13 F-69 stuff ... Pick the one that is the degreasing agent. That would be the one to lift out those stains and rinse them away.

OK,,,Something was just brought to my attention that I wasn't even thinking about. Any type of caustic should not be used in and around areas where people are going to be especially if they are going to be sitting down on bleachers. If all the residue is not rinsed off properly and someone were to come in contact with ANY residue it could cause major burns, rashes etc...and guess who would be responsible...While a caustic may do a great job cleaning these bleachers it is surely not the way to go in this situation. You may want to look into using a safer type of detergent for this type of cleaning...This is something that never even crossed my mind. The man to thank for possibly saving your business and a lot of hassle on this matter is not me. It's Ron. Thanks Ron for the heads up!!!

Not to mention the slip factor...if it were not all rinsed off and the place got wet (like rain) it would be like walking on wet glass...

Good post I didnt think about that either

Ron called me and told me a true story about an incident that happened back in 1994. I think he should post it or at least tell it at the next RT. Very eye opening story.

Alright the hot water demo went good, still some slight shadows here and there but as bad as they were I think that to be expected. So my next question is has anyone ever bid on some grandstands like these? If so how did you price this?
Since its aluminum have you though about using a brightner?

Hey Curtis,

Anything ever come of this project for you? I have a similar project we're bidding out this week. I think two step with a non-hfl cleaner would probably be the way to go. The issue on this end is all the gum unfortunately.

All I would do is apply Hammer and rinse! DONE! Hammer is a special alluminum cleaner and works fast. No need to two step.
