We have all diesels. From the 100 hp diesel turbo for the washers to the Dodge Ram. We have never have any problems from the diesels.

Case in point....

Had a Delco washer some 18 years ago. Ask for the washer to be heavy duty. Gave me a Briggs V twin. Lasted a whole 38 hours. Brought it back. They asked what happened. We said we ran it for 2 (18) hour days on Sat & Sun and then engine blew up. They told me we had to give the unit a rest ( a break ) if we were going to run it that hard. Whoever heard of a machine needing a coffee break every 3-4 hours. I told them, this is a machine, not a person... pretty soon I'm going to need to offer health ins. and start giving paid union holidays. IT IS A MACHINE NOTHING MORE! If I want it to run non stop for 80 hours, it should run that and more with no complaints.

With that said, Delco upgraded me at no charge to the diesel 6300 version Kubota 3 cyl. We had that motor for 10 years until my guys changed the oil the day before and that night ran it for 8 hours before realizing a " unusual noise". Shortly after the engine blew a whole the size of a baseball on the side of the block. Thats when they realized that someone forgot to put oil in the unit. That engine ran under a full load for 8 hours with virtually little to no oil.

As far as truck engines....

We bought back in 1995 the new V10 gas motor from Dodge. 300 hp with 450 lbs of torque. We blew that motor 4 times in 46,000 miles. Dodge replaced the engines under warranty. We traded that one in for the Cummings. No problems ever.

Look it, Diesels are clearly the better product for the industrial guy. They are more expensive, but will last so many times longer. They will work without coffee breaks or time limits. They will give their all, without complaining.

You will save in fuel usage, better gas mileage, and less mechanical problems. In some states, No smog test. (In California, all 2008+ need smog test)

If you have the money, Diesel all the way.

Again, this is all based on my past experiences.

While I'm a firm believer in that theory I have to say it takes along time to recover the additional expense incurred, be it the purchase price difference in the cost of the equipment as well as the ever increasing gap in the price of gas vs diesel. I had a Landa skid with a Vanguard 18hp V twin that was pushing 6000hr 12+ years when I sold my other PW company and it was still running strong the engine was never apart. The only thing I did different was It ran on Castrol Syntac since the day it was new and the oil was changed often.dh
