Buying an used machine..

I got a call today from a local PW shop. They have used rig setup for sale. The rig includes: 2 reels, hoses, tank, trailer, hot water PW 8GPM Landa with 24HP Honda (don't know any more details). The guy said that the engine has been replaced recently and the pump is in excellent condition. The asking price is $3900. I will go tomorrow to check it out. What should I look for, when buying used machine?

Thanks,

D.

That it works. LOL

$3900 is a good price. Just make sure that the engine is indeed new and that the pump works good as well. Look everything over well. Run the machine and make sure you like it.
Personally I wouldnt buy used unless it was a really good deal.
But that sounds like a really good deal so....

If worse comes to worse, go with your gut.

Good luck.

I am not a fan of used equipment eighter, but another 8-10k are out of consideration..

With prices like that, it is a good deal if it runs decent and the rest of the items you mentioned are good.

When buying anything "Used" good ole common sense, and knowing what you're buying prevails every time.

Check the hours, and overall condition of the rig, like the man said go with your gut!!

I'm a big fan of used equipment!!! I won't buy "New" unless it's something custom.

Does the Landa look like this one???

I haven't seen it yet. I'll go see it tomorrow. Even if there is an engine meter, I wouldn't count on it.

Thanks Nigel, always heard Landa was a pretty good machine, THEY ARE!!! That thing heats up water quick!!!

There's a 8gpm on ebay, Hydro Tek, trailer, tanks, I think it's starting at $6700.00. Looks like a nice rig. I'll never buy anything under 8 gpm again!

I don't like Hydrotek. I have never been impressed with their build quality. I know others have a different opinion, but then, they probably like Chevy's too.

I bought mine used also from a dealer. Ask them to give you at least a 30 day warranty to cover ANYTHING that goes wrong with it.

When buying used equipment be patient. People are constantly getting rid of equipment. A couple of months ago I posted a 21 mosmatic surface cleaner with casters for $350. I was trying to help someone sell it. I didn't know her but she had it on Craigslist It had only been used once and was spotless. I didn't need it, but she never sold it so I bought it for $250

know a guy selling a hotsy 1260 hot water 5 gpm. 3500 psi,6x10 trailer,2 hose reels, hoses, not sure what else but he wants $5k call me if you interisted

First thing that jumps out is 24hp motor. That is ok for a cold water 8 gpm but right on the limit for an 8gpm hot water. Thats probably why it has a new motor. Do you know the model #. Make sure you look inside the coil for soot build-up. Another think to check is pressure climb. I sell new Landa equipment and have several in my rental fleet. As they age they have a tendency to build pressure after you let go of the gun. This typically happens after running the burner even for a short period of time. Eventually you will end up replacing the rupture discs all of the time until you replace the coil. You can half way fix this by installing a flow actuated unloader and a resetable pressure relief.

I currently have a 5.6GPM hot water hydro-tek which I bought brand new. I want to add to the truck another 8GPM but budget is limited for more new stuff.

THanks for for your priceless advices. I will follow your instructions. I have not seen it yes cuz it was a crazy day. What I noticed is when I asked the guy what is the brand, he kinda meant like the machine used to be Landa, but stuff on it has been replaced and now is "half" Landa :).. What I also remember is that it was 115v. I will hook up a gauge right after the whip hose to see if holds up good 3500PSI and it does not build pressure on bypass mode. When you say to look inside the coil, you mean to look at the middle where the fire goes through or I need to take off the cover of the boiler?

Thanks again!

D.
