brushes?

Today I went to bid a job at a goverment building. They have two hoods and the duct work goes straight up 4ft, then it goes horizontally 125 ft, then it goes vertically up another 4ft to the fans. Right now they have one access door (6"X6") about in the middle of each horizontal duct. When I tried to explain to them that there should be more access doors they said the last company used brushes and had no problems at all with one access door in each duct.
Both ducts have a fryer and broiler under them so they are very dirty so I know that I have never seen a brush that will do the job. How often should there be access panels to be able to clean the duct properly. Also, the system has not been cleaned since Jan 2001 and the said they are in no big hurry.

He is thinking of the Air lateral-not the grease hoods-I would run like hell and have him call the guy back. You can't win this fight. :)

Brushes......total BS.

Since the "other company" cleaned it last with no access and with brushes this client needs to go back to the "other company" for more BS.

Run don't walk away from this one......or give him a bid to do it right.

You should have access on those laterals every 12 feet and at every change in direction.

Bid it high and give 'em what they want - pull a little feather duster through the duct and provide an invoice for about 3 thou. It's a government job therefore you should get paid in about a year. Probably the building will be torn down for some other project anyway. You should expect, however, total loss of the feather duster.
