Briggs Vanguard Engines

There are a few things I dont like such as the plastic tanks with giant worm clamps for straps but for the most part they are nice, they are a little rough to work on if you have to remove the front panel, its a real butthole to remove, screws in the front and bolts and nuts you have to access from underneath.
 
You had 8 motors blow up in 12 months? That seems a little crazy, do you do any preventative maintenance? Briggs is very good about replacing things if they are a legitimate manufacturing defect.

I have had the main bearing blow the back out of two motors, one was our fault, one was Briggs. Briggs replaced both without issue. Kohlers are also great motors and I dont think you can go wrong with Honda either.


Also....Scott, how many employees do you have and how many trucks are you running, 24 machines in service at once is quite impressive!

Unfortunately when you have a problem you have to deal with the company assigned to your territory to determine warranty eligibility which is where the problem lies. The company that looked at both of my blown Vanguards claimed we didn't change the oil frequently enough. Total BS. We had a head gasket blow on the one then after fixing it under warranty that same motor blew the crank and bearings after about 3 hours of use. They denied the claim and said I could send it into Briggs on my dime for further investigation.

Have yet to have a Honda blow yet with 9 units in service and 3 spares in the shop. Have a 15 hp Kohler that kicks ass too but the damn thing is recoil only. Ever pull started a 15hp Kohler?? LOL

Wow Scott, you are providing jobs and feeding families.

I bet they appreciate steady 40 hr a week work better than ten hours a weekend and a trip to disneyland! lol.
 
I had one kohler and it lasted 3000+ hours and started smoking. Then went to Hondas and haven't looked back. I have 3 Honda 24 hp. One has 5000+ hrs, one has 4000+ and third one has over 2000 hrs. I had charging system go out on one after around 2000 hrs but no problems besides that. Also have a 46hp Lombardini (now kohler diesel) that we have put around 2000 hrs on since we bought it used. It will use around half as much fuel as one of the Hondas in a day!
