Bid Help Needed: How to Clean High Mildew? (Pics Posted)

I'd much rather be asked upfront or in advance about any and/or everything BEFORE hurting someone (myself included) or something!!! If fire is hot, I'll take your word for it - being burned isn't necessary! So again I thank you ALL!

ALUMINUM.ALUMINUM.ALUMINUM. Low low low pressure.

CL, Soft Wash it and never have to leave the ground. That would be the easiest and most safest way of cleaning that job. Would only take about 1.5-2 hours to clean

That's what I'm talking about! Thanks Dan

The caustic soda only came into play when I saw a video with Michael Kreisle introducing cling-on on youtube

Thanks to Doug Rucker (a.k.a. the "G.O.A.T." of pressure cleaning - LOL), I am now! I'm going to start with a 0030, that should get it. If not, maybe a 0040. (I'm @ 4gpm/3000psi)

No yellow noddle for me! (Thanks Pat Norman)

This is commercial hot water sidewalk cleaning, even then you don't need caustic most of the time, I would not use it on that sidewalk but that is just me, I have other cleaning methods/solutions I use for commercial sidewalk cleaning. Most of those window/door frames are aluminum but painted dark, when you see some in shopping centers that are bare aluminum and spray that solution on them, you will be handing over your commercial insurance policy over to the PM or Owner so they can have a company come out and buff out all the damage you just did because you did not know what you were doing, just following someone's advice from the internet and did not have a clue on what damage can happen from using Caustic.

Not trying to be mean here but you need to do a lot more reading and understand these chemicals before just going out and buying whatever because someone said so. You are not at another person's level of experience or knowledge yet so don't do most of what people on the internet say until you have more knowledge/experience under your belt.

Put that bag of caustic into another clear plastic bag for safety and secure it then put it up into storage up high where children and adults will not ever touch it as it can cause very bad permanent damage to skin, eyes and all other body parts at any time. Then once you have more knowledge and experience and have a need for that kind of chemical when you are doing greasy drive thru's, dumpster pads and that kind of stuff, then bring out the caustic, wear the proper ppe and then use that chemical, until then, keep it out of reach of everyone for safety.

As for the church, get some SH (not ever caustic), into a 5 gallon bucket, add in your soap, start downstreaming, once the contaminants are gone, take the soap hose out of the bucket and start rinsing or you can have another bucket with water to rinse out the injector as these need to be rinsed out after the job is done or at the end of the day. I rinse them out before the job is over and they last me a while this way. The SH will eat up the injectors over time, it is just how it is but they will go bad a lot faster if you don't rinse them out with water.

I like to use the same nozzles for applying soap and rinsing, I just have to go back to the trailer to pull the soap hose out of the bucket and put it into a bucket of water, just my personal preference and this helps my injector last a long time.

That is how I wash houses and how I would wash that church, no problem.

Now go git r done.

Thanks Chris, that's good stuff. What solution would you use for concrete?

The same concrete in the video.

I have chemicals I use but don't talk about them on the forums as my competitors read these forums and they lowball and hack away at jobs as it is, I will not teach them what I use or talk about it here, I am sure you can understand.

I would make sure that you have something that is safe to use around aluminum if you start doing commercial sidewalks, if they are not restaurants and just spilled cokes, slurpee's, icee's, etc....so no tracked grease, then a good detergent will work good, sometimes just hot water by itself works good, just have to see what works best in your situations.

Be careful around bare aluminum, if the detergent is hot or has a lot of caustic, I would not use it as caustic can turn aluminum brown, stain it and also cause pitts along with white soap stains that have to be buffed out carefully.

There are many ways to clean commercial concrete, no one way is the right way, it is all personal preference.

I mention the bare aluminum because I know of a few times this has happened to contractors, glad it was not me.

Something to remember is that one mix that works great for one contractor might not work good for another as the SH is made in different parts of the country and I know first hand that the SH in florida is way hotter than what I have bought here, from San Antonio and from Houston so the mix has to be adjusted. Also the mold, mildew, algae and fungus are different, same kind but different so the same mix recipe might not work so you have to adjust it some, this is just part of the business. Over time you will know what will work on what and how strong you need to make things.

If you have not talked to Doug, I would highly recommend his class as it will shorten the learning curve, teach you things so you don't have to learn by trial and error and waste time and money doing so. I think you would be happy in taking that class, everyone has so far.

Great Job
