What is the best seal for a cedar roof. The customer does not want it stained, just cleaned and sealed. We us Ready Seal on decks, is it good for roofs?
Go read what the Cedar Shake & Shingle bureau suggests. There are arguments for and against non-drying oils on a roof. Armstrong Clark makes a product called Shake Shield - with a fire retardant additive you can put in there.....but oddly enough, Jake suggested we not use that product on shakes?
You need a solid content of at least 75 % (non drying oil) to re-bulk the wood fibers on shakes. Ready Seal meets that standard. TWP 200 is another. I would not use any product with a drying oil in it.
