Bent Rod, PW out of commission

I have a had 4 honda 13 hp motors in the past 8 years 2 of them thru rods and the other 2 simply fell apart..Honda is not what they used to be.. I am happy with my 18hp Vangaurd now... But you can get a elec start Honda 13hp at Northern Tool for 795 I think.. Honda motors don't rebuild well .. Trust me I have rebuilt my share of small engines..

I got the 11 hp Harbor Freight Greyhound engine last November. I think I've put around 480 hrs on it and finally had a minor problem.

The bracket for the gas tank broke and the tank tumbled around eventually knocking the ignition block off sending the wires into the pulley where they were cut. No big deal, I tightened everything down, wired everything back up and put a bungee cord over the tank and used it like that till we got a few days off starting today.

Then I made a MISTAKE.

I didn't realize the 2 year warranty included a ONE-TIME replacement. If I had, I would have just continued to use the motor that way till next October and THEN took it in to exchange. BUT It was too late, I had already pulled it and took off all the pulleys. So they gave me a brand new one, but I had to buy a new 2 year warranty for $50.00.

I'm not complaining though. The thing has always run like a champ and never failed to start and I'm on my second one with less than $300 total out of pocket.

I just learned that I won't take another one in for minor problems.

We've made a few go karts with these. Remove the governor and hope they last 18 months, then replace! I never thought to use one on my pw... I guess I'll have to give it a shot next time around.

I use them for 4gpm machines, but I must say they fall apart if you actually use them. The bolts that hold the gas tank on break off, the electric start panel falls apart, after all this is over I still get them exchanged quite frequently contrary to Tony's experience. I actually have 4 of them and just warranties on 2 of them. I keep those 2 reciepts and when one fails, I take it off and grab one of the reciepts and head to the local Harbor Freight.

The engine itself gives us little problems its just the way its put together similar to a pressure pro vs landa. The connectors and assembly are the difference

Mine's still running strong. I did have the same gas tank bolt issue though.
