Bent Rod, PW out of commission

Well, I have had a hard time starting my pw on the last couple jobs. Elec. starter didn't work, and had to pull start. Finally went out. Had it in the shop and found a bent rod. Now I have to take it to a small engine mechanic.

My question...It's a 13hp Honda. IF the bent rod was the only issue, what should this cost to repair (approx.)? I think a new engine of this size is around $500 - $700.

Honestly, you can tear down most small engines in an hour or two. Figure four hours max shop time, but, that is just me. I don't know the costs. I do wonder what would cause you to bend a rod. Seems unusual to me. Especially on a honda.

Yea, I wonder too. Last two weeks or so, I've had to walk much slower to prevent tiger striping. Last job I did was the first time it was too hard to start. Seemed like the pressure kept dropping. Should have taken it in a few days sooner.

I have lots of pushrods, rocker arms, head assemblies, etc. Give me a shout if you need some parts.

I feel your pain bud, I just had some engine trouble of my own. Seems like the numbers point to new engine, or get the part from Russ and put it in yourself. You could try harbor freight with a 2 year drop off warranty a la Tony Shelton.

small engine repair is going to cost about $150+
Or a 20 pack of BudLight(at least down here)
I had a 13hp honda rebuilt for me a few years back. it was never the same after that.

150 hrs so far runs like a top!

11hp less than 250 out the door!

So far so good.

With my 4gpm pump, I currently have the 13hp Honda. Is it best to stick with the 13hp? What would switching to a 11hp cause?

Have any of you heard of these Greyhound engines? $399 doesn't seem too bad. Then I don't have to worry any more about a used or rebuilt.

I bought one on sale for $299 and paid $50 for the 2 year warranty. I've had a couple of problems, they are going to replace under warranty. I bought a generator from them with this motor and it runs great. With the warranty it's a good deal. They replace them almost no questions asked.

They have them on sale all the time, but you probably can't wait for them to go on sale.

I guess my timing is right! Getting one today for $299. I'll pay for the warranty also.

We use those Harbor Freight engines all the time, run for hours and hours on end and are great. We always use synthetic oil from the first start and continue with every change.

I was under the impression that synthetic oil would damagee the motor. what do you guys think, Russ?

Synthetic rules! I just had my engine apart at 2500 hrs and it is gleaming inside. You can still see the honing on the cylinders and there is no ridge at all. I used synthetic on all my engines before it was recommended and it worked great, I think there really is a difference.

Mike looks like a good turnaround time, good job. Don't you just feel bad inside when your equipments not right ?

Yep, it is a bad feeling when you know it's not running right! Just got home with the new engine. I'm glad they had a couple in stock!
