basements

i have to call a customer back about washing a basement. The last owners had dogs and cats, kept them in the basement. Old people if you get my meaning.
2 things-what would be the best chem to kill germs and disinfect [was thinking pre carb bleach and dawn with anti-bacterial] Also get rid of the smell[home depot sell's a deoderizer].
Second is if there no sump pump?
I only have a 4 gal shop vac.
I'll guess and say"just use a sump pump that pulls from 1/4 inc and use a large squeege. Then just suck up the rest with the shop vac?"

If you use a Shop Vac Ron, be careful about using any high foaming soap like Dawn. The Shop Vac will create alot of suds while it is vaccuming. This in turn will cause the ball inside to rise, plugging up vacuum. If you try to run it without the balll then foam will shoot out all over the place.

If you have to use the vacuum I recommed this. Go to a carpet cleaning supply and get a defoamer. Or rinse everything down real good while the sump pump is working, then use the Shop Vac.

Good Luck

Check to see if deordorizer works best when applied to dry surface. If so, you may be looking at two trips.

Shop vac should work. Last year I purchased a "zero clearance" sump pump as an emergency device. Have not used yet, but may work in basement on low spots.

Ron, Home Depot sells a Little Giant pump for about $60.00 that will suit your neds on this project. It hooks up to a garden hose and will go down to 1/4" or 1/8" if you remove the screen. Stay away from bleach in the basement. The father of a guy I know made the mistake of using bleach in a basement along without proper ventilation from a pressure washer and died from heart failure a few years back. What ever you use take a fan with you to vent the basement. I would use a commercial disinfectant after cleaning.

thanks

for the help,everyone.
There are some sheetrock walls and a cedar closet.
Dont think there's enuff profit in this wash job to warrent buying the pump and the stuff to berm off everything and have a helper pushing the water.
Steve-oxi-bleach is way diffrent then reg household bleach but thank you for your input.
Pine scented LYSOL would prob. do the trick.
This just might be the first time a homeowner type wash unit would be better then the 5.6 GPM unit.
Just hook it up to the hot water heater and use a downstreamer with a duel lance.

Your talking like your already maRRIED,they are other ways of cleaning besides squirting water with a powerwasher....ifen ya want the job.Take a look at your Rental Store and see what they have but do not tell them your getting married too as they will know why ya so blinded in the thinking they are only one way to skin a cat.

And besides whats wrong investing some dat rock buying money on eqt.,,,,its whats going to buy her more rocks in days to come, any smart wife would know dat,my last one did, she's walking around somewhere with over 30000 on her fingers
:D .
