Bagging downspouts

I have not tried bagging the downspouts, I might give that a try.

I am just worried about the tape taking the paint off the downspouts.

I guess you just put the bag around the downspout and tape it there, not to the downspout????

I will give it a try on my next roof cleaning job this week.

chris you don't have to tape them just slide the bag up the down spout . . . there isn't that much pressure coming out of the gutter

We use the bags that have the draw string ties in them. Just slide it over the spout and pull... You could also just use a rubber band, small bungie cord or a zippi tie if you feel safer doing so. I have had a couple fill up and need changing while doing a Roof. Have your ground guy keep an eye on them.

Here are some pics of a Commercial Roof Cleaning In Sun City Center that Larry helped out on.
Notice the bagged downspouts ?

Here is the roof of the Church being done.
Notice the cling of the modified roof cleaning chemical ?
This roof was darn near vertical.
The pastor did not have a lot of extra money to spend on roof cleaning.
So, to save on chemical cost, we thickened the chemical up.
This increases the dwell time, allowing the use of less chemical.

Great job! The roof didnt look that big until I saw the guy standing on it.
And thanks for the pics of the bagging
This had a considerable amount of roof surface.
We used decent quality drawstring bags on the downspouts.
Don't like the cheap bags, they break too easy, defeating the whole idea of bagging downspouts.
This church, like a lot of homes in Sun City Center, has Bermuda Grass.
It will DIE quick, if not protected.
No matter how great a roof cleaning job you do, people will always remember that you killed their plants.
Think about it ?
Would YOU send a "plant killer" to your friends/neighbors ?

I would still tape the bags if your going through the effort to use them. I have actually had bags roll off the downspouts as they filled.
Reminds me of a T Shirt that said "Silence is Golden, Duct Tape is Silver" ;)

It's just a really small guy! :D

NEVER BAG DOWNSPOUTS! It gives you a false sense of security.

How would you handle the issue, do you have a blog at softwash systems to direct us to?

Larry, If the chems that run off are not worth anything then is there a reason to even bag it? Are you doing it for the selling point or do you believe that there is enough chem to still kill the grass or plants even if you water it down. I have not had chance to do a roof yet and I am still trying to figure out if I want to bag or not.
AS the SH goes through a battle with organic matter (The Cynobacteria On A Roof), it is weakened somewhat.
However, it still contains SODIUM (Salt), that will kill plants in a heartbeat, if not diluted or captured, by bagging the downspouts.

Football, Gutter Cane & PW. Have never had a burned or dead plant or grass around the downspouts.

That's great to know Dan
