Automotive altenator

Has anyone ever tried to use one of these on your belt drive pressure washer? Should easily keep the 12v battery charged. Any input would be great.

Several years ago Whitco built a machine with an alternator on it to power the burner. It would take quite a bit of engineering to mount it properly on your machine. Belt alignment and tension are crucial. You'd be better off using an engine with an adequate charging system and a large automotive battery. I never understood why manufacturers suggest a deep cycle battery, since these have to be almost completely discharged and recharged to maintain their "memory". If your battery discharges too low, you run the risk of toasting your ignitor. An automotive battery is designed to maintain a voltage level through the engie recharging it during use.

Electro-Magic used an alternator on their small 12 volt burners for a number of years
they worked fine.

The models that the alternators were used on were eliminated when Alkota bought out Electro-Magic.

So I would say yes it can be done. AS to what is best for your application, I think that is your call.

i was

under the impression that alt put out 14 volts. So make sure you get a GM with a internal voltage reg. or add one so you dont cook the battery.

Simpson And MiTM both use this method all they do is use an alternator with a built in voltage regulator. They will work from 2400 to 18,000 Rpm. The higher the speed the more amps they will put out.
