I'm looking to add an auto shut-off box to my pressure washer and I was wondering if any of you guy are using one and what are your taughts about it? It's not cheap but for me it would be a time saver since I'm working all by myself, so no running back to the unit to power it off in between the cleaning cycle...

Any advice?

Thanks,

What exactly are you washing?

Are you wanting to shut down the engine for a 5 or 10 minute dwell time?

Does your machine have a bypass to help out the pump?

Not sure of what you are really asking or trying to do or trying to clean. Tell us more about your machine and cleaning situation, chances are there are alternatives or other ideas that will help you.

I was actually looking at this product: auto shutdown control

To answer your questions Chris, I'm in the KEC business... I'm currently using a 1500psi - 2GPM electric hot water unit that runs on 120 with a diesel burner. I'm looking to get something that would power off the unit without going back to the trailer since I'm working all by myself and it's a pain going back and forth to shut-off the unit. I've look at the auto shutdown control from Water Cannon that shuts down the unit at the realease of the trigger and I was wondering if any of you guys have ever tried something like that...

I assume that you garden hose feed your machine. I wouldn't use pressure switches to activate the system. I prefer flow activation because if you develop a small leak downstream, it won't constantly start and stop. A flow control has to see 1/2 gpm in order to kick in. I could build you one if I knew more about your machine.

Hi Russ,

You're right I garden hose feed my machine... So what you're telling me is that if there's a small leak after the pump the shutdown control will start and stop the unit even if I did not release or squeeze the trigger? Ok! To be real honnest with you I've sent an email to the technical dpt of Water Cannons to get more infos about their product but I'm still waiting on an answer!

I use a John Deere AC-1500-EH model, that runs with a Marathon 2HP electric motor running on 120... Concerning the flow control what kind of pricing would be involved?

Feel free to PM about it...

Thanks,

Good going Russ..
pressure switches wear out too quick in this application for sure.
Flow-Switches rock ! ..just stick with one that has the 3 amp reed-switch

Hi Guys, I've finally replaced the pw I was talking about in this thread... I now own a new pw equiped with the auto shut-off box and I would not go back to the old pw. The shut-off box that's intalled is working on flow switch like Russ mentionned in post #5, it work like a charm. Release the trigger gun and it shuts-off in approx. 60 seconds! No more running from the inside of a restaurant to shut down the unit in between degreaser application... Of course this add-on is a little more expensive than the regular pw but for me it pays for itself the first day I've used it!

How do you turn the machine back on?

Do you have to go outside to turn the machine back on?
