At work communications, 2 way radios, cell phones.

Was wondering if anyone uses 2 way radios for communication on the job site?
Then there are the issues of batteries. Or the use of the handsets that charge in a cradle when not in use.
Or the walkie talkie cell phones.

These things are great when there are a few guys in different locations.

If you have a walkie talkie type cell phone then the 2 way radios become obsolete. Unless you dont like to have your cell phone in the gease zone.
 
I use rechargeable 2 way radios, about 30 bucks at your local Wal-Mart. I use a 12 volt converter through the cigarette lighter to plug the base and keep em charged, about 20 bucks at your local Wal-Mart. It really beats yelling through the ducts trying to get someone's attention.
 
We have Nextel - or Sprint - or Sprintel - or whatever they are going to be and use our two-ways ALL the time. However, when we work with guys that don't have one, we do keep a set of battery operated Motorolas that have come in quite handy when working on two different buildings in the same development. Ours are old ones but still going strong - they've got about a 2 mile range on them.

My motorolas are pretty beat up.
We tried the head set voice activated microphones but they pic up everything your not intending to communicate. "what did you say something?"

Hey Dodsonish. Why would one? There again ONE man team, need 2 way radios? :p :eek:
 
Multiple personalities. I like to boss myself around, and the echo of the radio makes the effects better. ;)
 
Nah, he is probably like me and fires himself. Then I go home, and my wife says that I need to beg myself for my job back.

Sometimes it sucks to be self employed.

That implies that I get a check. I have not signed, or endorsed a check in about 5 years. Pretty sad, isn't it?
 
We use Cellular South Cellphones they have unlimited calling in the state of Mississippi for $ 49.95 a month. So we just call and talk.. We use the cheapest phones money can buy..usually the freebies...... and if we are out in the boonies at a mom & pop store and have no signal we just YELL !!!
I think the only time we have to use our cellphones is at the casino's in vicksburg because the fans are like way way up ....

Someone mentioned walkie talkie's I haven't seen one of those since I palyed football in high school... LOL
 
Do the one man crews talk to themselves?
