I think the "trick" with a sealer is to trap the algae prevention chemical in it, and slowly allow it to leach out.

One must remember that Glass and Aluminum have no pores, yet Mildew grows all over them.

I took a ladies nylon and filled it with borax, and stretched it across a section of the roof by hanging it off a ridge vent once. Had to refill it once a year, but the roof NEVER got dirty!
