Uh-oh, I see Matt took exception to the "redneck with a 2-digit IQ" remark. I humbly apologize. I retract that remark - it was a horrible distortion. Matt's pic absolutely does not look like a redneck. It looks more like a typical L A hoodlum.

Lets lighten up guys!
Matt the only editing I did was to remove something I said that was in poor taste and it was done in an effort to "take the gloves off". I apologize, I should have told you beforehand.
But I still don't know why this thread turned in this direction. Lets get back on the topic, its a good one.

LOL, You boys, I do mean Boys.....

seems some bagage has been building up. sometimes getting things out in the open is good. Although this kind of remines me of Dan s on PWN.

Both of you guys please keep it up. Then all the respect you once had will be gone.

In all cerial-ness, we are all pros and really both you guys are good people. really just kiss and make up.

The only thing that true is that this was a great thread Matt started. so for the sake of the thread please.

Hey Richard I was rereading this thread and noticed you used the EVISCERATE.
Are you sure your an exhaust cleaner, I think you should have said "tear you an new one" what's up, you use those big fancy words but you can't post a picture.

Bryan,
I may have a few words in my repertoire - whoops I mean 'I got me some words to spat out at ya', but I never said I was smart. I'm not even very good at taking pics. Recently I found some undeveloped 8mm film we took in Mexico in about 1964. We had it developed and, aside from a reddish tint, it came out great! We now have a movie of our kids to pass along to them next Christmas.

Cmon Ron "BOY'S" I take exeption to that. I think we stopped being boys the first time you come home to find grease in our underwear.

And I thought you meant taking off the boxing gloves!!

Silly me

One last thing, I edited one of your posts too Grant, I dont know exactly what I changed but you can take out what I wrote if you want. No hard feelings.

Ok back to our regularly scheduled program.

Grant's post on education actually got me thinking. I have never been to one of the schools that Delco or Rusty put on but I would venture to guess that there is no way they can teach you what you need to know in just a few days. We are learning something new every day and I am constantly in the shop designing new tools to fit certain situations. The other problem is that new exhaust cleaners wouldn't know what to ask anyway at these schools because they have never run in to ANY situation yet.

Just for the record, I don't know how open I would be to doing this, but if we had a real association that was comprised of exhaust cleaners from around the country who were not afraid to share their ideas, I would be willing to bet that we could make advancements in our industry like never before. Maybe this is done at the IKECA or PWNA meetings already and I sound like an idiot, I don't know.

I am guessing that guys like Facilitec and National have tools and chemicals that they would never share with anyone which would make doing a good job easier. I certainly have things that I feel like are "trade secrets" but who knows.

Maybe I haven't been in the PWNA or IKECA long enough to reap the benefits, but to me it doesnt really feel like I am learing anything that I don't already know. I will attend my first IKECA meeting this year and maybe my tune will change, we'll see.

What does all of this have to do with this post you ask? Well if we all really knew how to CLEAN all parts of an exhaust system, no matter how difficult it was, wouldn't we reduce the risk of fire? How cool would it be if every time there was a fire in a restaurant, it never spread through the ductwork. How much more respected would we be?

Education is the only way we are going to advance and increase our reputation, but the education of seasoned exhaust cleaners far outweighs any school or association.

Maybe we need to have Grant and Matt settle this like grownups.

Maybe a bowling tournement???? :D

Grant may have a slight advantage but I am sure that Matt would give it his best "redneck/ college dropout" shot.

Matt-

I have went through the training and they do teach you what you need to know in 5 days. After 5 days of training I came home and started my business, which has been successful. Quite a few others can say the same.

We at the CHDCA share ideas and insights every day, it just so happens that the majority of us aren't as seasoned as most. The majority had never cleaned a hood prior to their training.

Rusty has extended a welcome to all who would like to be a part of our association. It could be exactly what you had described above. Education can come from the association of hood cleaners, but we'll first have to get along.

Rusty works very hard to keep us educated, our part is to just stay involved.

I have always thought of my work as fire prevention. Restaurants hire my service to remove the fuel side of the triangle, thus preventing a fire within the exhaust system. I don't know what else you would call it, maybe fire postponement in some cases.

LA area roundtable meeting Bowling and / or boxing (Matt/ Grant only please) in parking lot at Palos Verdes Bowl.
Date????
Where: 24600 Crenshaw Blvd Torrance, CA 90505 310-326-5128

We just need an impartial referee...maybe Doc can fly in to mc/ referee. :D

The I.R.S. would call our work 'fire abatement'.

I know where Matt and Grant could settle their differences like gentlemen - the Valley Garden Arena in N Hollywood (assuming it is still there). It is close by and they could settle this in a civilized manner by bashing out each other's brains in the ring. Be sure to use the 5 ounce bag gloves to get it over with sooner. I had many a fight there and learned a great lesson - the bigger they are the harder they HIT!!

Not everything you need to know. Thats like saying a lawyer out of college is ready to try any case. No school however thorough can teach you everything, most of the stuff has to be learned through experience. If Rusty is giving you further education then that is excellent. I did get a chance to browse your private CHDCA board for a short while and I must say that the information that you guys share on that board far exceeds anything shared on any other.
