any short cuts

I need some help i've got a fleet of trucks to wash 40 trailers and 40 tractors and its alot of work and it takes alot of time maybe i'm doing it the hard way. does any one have any short cuts or some tips to make the job go alittle faster or smoother.the trucks have alot of crome on them. what type of chemical works on the crome as well as the paint. any suggestions will help. (i hope). thanks.:)

This is one of those questions that you could get all kinds of answers on.....the only true best way to find any "short cuts' is to "dig" in and clean live and learn so to speak....we do alot of prespraying then we wash , after the chem is applied and time to "soak" a lil......turns out wonderfull NO BRUSH.. as far as the trailers believe it or not but i can do 60 in an hour.........sometimes more sometimes less and with only 400 gal of h20..... you really truly got to learn ,either new ways to make your time more valuable ...but ;remember that if you are worried about how fast you can clean you will most likely miss some spots and it will look like D00-D00.....

60 in a HOUR???

Hello Dan

I've been in this biz for 24 years and I wash an awful lot of trucks every single week. I'm wondering about your statement of "I can wash 60 trailers in one hour"??? I've never seen anybody do it and have never heard anybody even say they can do it, so I'd love to know HOW YOU DO THAT??? ROFL Chuck

thats right, 60 trailers in one hour you must be the record holder.a dan these are 53 feet long it takes me about 20 min, to do one thats brushing it with a helper.what soap do you use and is that hot water. come on give up the goods.

Re: 60 Trailers Per Hour

I'm thinkin they're horse trailers (Pony size)..lmaooooooo I'm pushin 5 gallons a minute at 3000 psi and I don't think I could RINSE 60 trailers in one hour let alone wash them. Hope this isn't makin you mad Dan, BUT NO FREAKIN WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gary you could probably cut some time off of that 20 minutes per trailer if you went to a stronger one step or better yet a real good 2 step soap process. Brushin sux, I hate it, so I use Hydrachloric Acid followed by a good alkaline (that I also use as a one step). Soft Soft Soft water is key, and if your pump is 5 gallons per minute you can move through a fleet pretty fast. How long is it taking you to wash those 80 units?? Do you get to do them weekly?? Sounds like a very good account. :)

I have an account that I've been doing for 20 years and there's over 200 trucks of all sizes in a yard over 900 yards long and maybe 70 yards wide. We wash what's in town every Saturday and it usually averages around 140 units. I use 2 wash rigs with 2 guys on each one and we're always out of there in between 5 or 6 hours. Nobody's ever in that yard and the trucks are always lined up for me and spaced really good. I really LOVE this account!!!! ;) Chuck

60 trailers in an hour?

Dan S.
Could that just be a typo "Clean 60 tailers in an hour"? I don't clean trucks/trailers and I know nothing about doing so but I am interested on how you can clean so many so fast. Do you have 20 pw rigs set up to do this? I do believe you are a one man operation so whats the trick. Can't leave us hangin because you let the cat out of the bag.

Or did you mean 60 trailers in a day. Please explain. I may have to get into truck cleaning and leave behind house/deck cleaning if you answer is true.

to scared to two step

yea I've thought of trying the two step because I hate using the brush as much as the next guy but that uses acid right, well I'm nervous just thinking about doing that. with all the crome and all if I srew that up I will be out of business you know. but maybe if I had some info on how to do that safely and correctly I would try it. do you know of a book or magazine that could help. let me know.thanks

I would like the moderators to answer this one. Is it possible to wash 60 and hour? Scott, Bigboy.

Gary,

Anyway I don’t wash trucks, thank goodness for Scott, LOL I did long ago and if you chemical is stronger you will clean trucks faster. I also use a 5-horse motor with a 300-psi pump for chemicals. And nothing less than 4 gallons a min to rinse at 3500psi. Factor in those things and you should wash a lot of trucks.

Dan s I believe you could wash 60, I don’t know if it’s by yourself. Of course how clean they are matters. Everyone chill out Dan will explain himself and if its true he will prove it. If it’s a typo he will say so I’m sure. Remember he does have his boy or boys that help.

Hey Dan I'm a BELIEVER,heck man I'd believe 65 if you say so but why go to the trouble of postiung as to how to NONbelievers.
Heck I cought a 30 lb. bass the other day but eat him but can show you the bones that is if the cats hadn't dragged them off like they did the head.Just email me the pictures and forget about those NONBELEIVERS.

YEAH I'M A BELIEVER TOO.....ROFL

Wish we lived in the same state Dan....I'd pay big cash just to see that little feat you're talkin about. Nevermind bettin on it, but oh what a good bet that could be. I line up 60 Trailers in a big yard...nevermind lmao Anyway, talkin about this was kinda fun but I'm off to have breakfast with Elvis right now and after we're done I'm goin to the beach with Madonna. :) Chuck

60 trailers an hour is moving it. I know how he does it. I have used a Vader to wash trailers with in the past and was able to wash about 40 an hour. The secret is letting a machine do all of the work. If your feet touch the ground you are losing money.
If you are using a guy on a brush and a guy on a gun then there is no way that you can wash 60 in an hour. I have washed 20 in an hour before. That was moving along, really fast. Of course, the soap that was dumped on the ground was incredible. We usually average around 10 an hour with 2 guys.

Scott i believe i sent you a pic. of this sometime ago...........if ya guys think it's too hard to believe well you got that right. i would probably be the same way if i did'nt no better as well. it's not a vader......Big boy your pic's are in the mail.......

ya know it really doesnt matter to me what anyone believes as a matter of fact i could delete everything i said and not lose any sleep...............

tell Elvis i said hello and also tell him that i think his music sucks.....my dog can sing better then he can...... also tell that Madonna chick to shave her freakin pits :p :p

Dan I still wouldn't show how,letem guess.

Hey man I thought I was fast but Scott can even beat me,I can only do 4,5 or 6 an hour by myself but my trailers are dirty,I have to washem.I would love to know what kind of chemicals to use to do even half that many but when I grow up I'll be a fast powerwasher like the rest of you after I get though this learning stage I'm going though.

Scott how about replaceing that red x with something else or have you got it hung there for a reason lol,,,*LOL*

Well hell, I've been wrong before, but after half stepping through this bizz for so long it just lit my cynical fire to hear someone talking about washin 60 an hour... If Ron saw it that's enough for me, and I don't have to see pictures of whatever it is you use, and congrats to you for coming up with the idea!!! Sounds pretty awesome. Peace :) Chuck
