Actually I believe that is a super High temp link. The newest thing on the market. It is supposed to be the last thing standing after a fire.
 
That's one way to keep the system from accidentally discharging. You said it's from a wood burning plenum. Must have when off a time or two and all the customer knows is it's not their fault no matter how high the heat and flames get.
