Amusing customer call today

I received a call from a customer today for a quote on washing his townhouse. This is a small community I am familiar with. Normal size homes with no major problems. This is the short version of the conversation:
_____

Hello WDR, how can I help you?

I need an estimate on washing my townhouse.

What exactly do you need cleaned?

I want the siding washed and possibly the small deck cleaned. Do you use just high pressure water?

I explain my washing process to him.

Oh, OK. Well you are going to need to use a boom lift or bucket truck to get up there to get the mold off. It is terrible and will need to be scrubbed off.

Again, I explain how I will clean the mold and it will be no problem.

You don't understand man, this is a three story townhouse. You are going to need a lift. I think you need to come by and look at it to see what I'm talking about. It's like 40 feet high!

Sir, I am familiar with the community you live in. I will easily be able to properly clean your home without a lift of ladder. I guarantee my work, blah, blah, blah.

Are you sure you won't need a lift?

Yes.

OK, but I'm still not sure how you will be able to do this without a lift or hand scrubbing the siding. Etc., etc. as the conversation winds down.

This conversation lasted longer than it should have. I just found it amusing that he was expecting someone to bring a lift to wash his 40 ft (if it is even that high) home. The entire conversation just made me chuckle.

Nobody has taken me up on the offer, but when customers say something to the effect of "you need a lift." I reply that I can do a free demo to show them I can reach without a ladder or lift. It might have saved you some time, then again it might not. Customers can be insistant sometimes.

Once heard a story from another contractor who was advised by his customer that the roof stains were from the planes heading to the airport dumping fuel. Try as it might to explain it, the customer was not willing to budge from the belief that planes were dumping fuel on his house while landing.

Why does that sound so familiar.......lol

Have had this happen to me before. A customer was insistent I needed a lift. I said fine you go ahead and arrange to have one here. He did. It was never touched. He was embarrassed and said he'd never doubt me again.

LOL good story Doug
