airless...

I dont know whats the same about the two. I have a deckhand and could never get it to spray even. I dont know how anybody can get good results spraying a deck using a chemical pump. I love my airless too....

thank you walter, assuming made good choice, But then again bad time to ask, been busy myself, Had my first 36 hour day!!!

Don't you hate those days when you get done early and can't waite for the next one to start?

Hi Guys,

I'm a Newbee.
Do you have any recommendations on airless sprayers? I'm all ears. I did my first deck that I got paid for this last weekend. Deck size was about 800' sq. with 6 stair steps and railing. The railing was a bear. I used the roller and brush method. I know there has to be a better and quicker way.

Thanks for your help.

rick, sometimes a sprayer is better/faster and sometimes not. Prep work and material loss are factors you have to think about.
Wind is the biggest problem.
Ever try stainning pads?

I have used painters mitt for hard to reach areas or multi-spindel decks but is a big mess...As with a airless sprayer, there is a cost factor as well as over spray...there not an ease to handle with a chance of applying to much sealer to fast or clobs...time and patience is what makes a deck look great...In my opinion

Walter, What product are you using with the Deckhand? Some products need to be reduces prior to spraying. I have used Cupernoil and reduced it 10% and applied with the cone nozzle and it sprays even. If yours does not have a ball valve on the gun , install one and you can control the flow and pressure. If that doesn't work for you give me a call.

Steven, Can you post a picture of your deck hand with the ball valve..I also cannot get a even spray...I use a oil-base stain and sealer from serwin williams

Thanks
Matt

Matt, Click on the Deckhand logo on my website (www.rowlettpressure.com) and it shows a picture of the the unit with the ball valve attached. You can go to Tractor Supply Co. and obtain a regulator valve in the air tool section that has a knob instead of a lever with a guage that will work. Install the valve between the lance and gun. The oil base Cupernoil in the green can (tint base) will work if thinned like I said.

I BOUGHT A GRACO 190ES 1 1/2 YEARS AGO TO SPRAY GATES AND H BRACES FOR A WATER PIPE LINE (33 MILES LONG) RAN ABOUT400 GALLONS OF EPOXY PAINT AND PRIMER THROUGH IT,
HAVENT USED IT IN OVER A YEAR. UNTIL LAST WEEK ,GOT MY FIRST DECK TO RESTORE , SPRAYER CUPRINOL OIL BASE THROUGH IT NO PROBLEM WITH IT AT ALL. DID BUY A NEW TIP FOR THE JOB! THE 190ES $747 PLUS TAX!;)

I haven't tried the painters mitt or stainning pads. I'll have to give them a try.

Haven't tried the painter's mitt

One word of caution if you do decide to use those mitts. Make sure the wood isn't too splintered. Those mitts can help but not when you get a sore hand due to too many splinters....ouch!!!:(

I am using Wolman F&P. The problems I have are the on demand switch on the pump (I have since replaced the original pump). It drops to far down before the switch kicks in causing different flow rates as I make a pass with the tip. With Wolman the product is just too thick. I can see it working with somthing real watery like cupinol.
