Aglae Cleaning Questions

First question, I know that if one spore of algae lands on the roof that it can spread throughout the whole roof. I also know that algae is sunlight retarded. My question is, if one side of the home that does not receive sunlight and where the algae seems to spread, do i need to clean both sides of the roof or just the side where the algae tends to spread?

My second question. I have a 20 gallon garden hose end sprayer. It isn't very big, not like the one Defy has. If I have granuals such as oxygen bleach and TSP, do I need to dilute the granuals inside the end sprayer container or can I just use the garden hose attachment, just put the granuales inside the container and spray?

Thanks for any help.

Welcome Wayne.. Fill out your signature in the user cp and you will probably get some answers you are looking for.

Most would say yes to clean the whole roof. I'm not too sure what you mean by "garden hose end sprayer" but for roof cleaning you will need a dedicated pump like a 12 volt or something so your mix is not dilluted. Most here will tell you that a basic roof mix will consist of 12.5% bleach, water and and some type of surfactant like dawn or ajax.
Heres a good mixing guide, theres one in there for roofs but it does not have to be that technical..
Do some searches for roof mix, roof cleaning, 12.5%, apple sauce, apple cider.. You can probably answer alot of your own questions.
Good Luck!!

First, don't believe everything you read from companies trying to sell you stuff.

Second, I can show pictures of the roof fungus on all sides of roofs, not just the North side, it usually starts there but it will go to all sides eventually.

Third, Fill out your signature, rules around here. Fill it out and more people will help you out.

Fourth, do the searching, there is a lot of info from many years here, type in the words into the search box near the top of the screen and do some reading.

Fifth, Don't believe everything that you read from companies selling you roof cleaning chemicals and equipment, there are many, many, many scams out there. Read here about what works for contractors, it might cost you too much as a Homeowner but there are probably contractors in your area that we can recommend.
