Brings to mind a restaurant here in Kentucky that has a outside dining area. They take small baggies and fill them with water, and hang them around the roof edge about 15' apart. No flies will come near the dining area for some reason. Don't understand why it works to repel flies, but it does. Try it and amaze your neighbors.

That's really popular here. I'd say 1 in 10 here have a bag hanging at the back door.
I spent 2 years in the Philippines and if you think that looks poor, you should see the northern provinces! We actually installed those bottle lights in a market place while I was there. Here's a pic of a village I spent some time in. It's amazing how well some can live on virtually nothing!

I had a "girlfriend" in Olongapo (sp?) back in the day.
She lived in a 10x10 block room like the one in the video. She slept on a regular sized bed with four other women. They showered and went to the bathroom over a hole surrounded by dirt and 4 ft block wall around it.
But they were all very clean, smelled great and kept their clothes clean.
It was amazing.

Flies are scared of themselves. The baggies act as mirrors. Usually the baggies are left open and a small amount of vinegar is put in them, flies won't come near vinegar. Baggies filled with vinegar and stapled to the rafters in barns is a well known fly and mosquito deterrent here in Texas. Another trick is to hang fabric softner sheets. We hang them by our doors in the summer and the flies wont come near them. Great for picnic tables too.
