A little stripper action for your entertainment

Many times I have used strippers on logs and cedar siding that left dark areas after brightening and drying. In these cases I determine if it is from weathering and naturally losing it's original characteristics. In this case I will intermix a semi into my natural to offset the discoloration. If that doesn't cover it just go to a full semi type product. When I determine it is deep imbedded mold and mildew I have gone back and rewashed with a bleach solution. Many times it will lighten the wood up but it will remove the black enough to put on a less opaque type of product. Remember though that when you do this you need to do the same to the whole side for consistency.

Everett when you talk about rewashing with bleach do you downstream or does it require direct application of a stronger mix? After that do you Neutralize / brighten again with oxalic? Thanks

I actually do a test area and then used the needed strength of mix. I use 12.5 but change my dilution based on using only what I need for about a 5-10 minute dwell time. I do re-brighten as well. Depending on the area you can downstream, x-jet, or pump up. I use a pump up to "cut in" around areas where I do not want the bleach to get past or on other surfaces. I would try it on one log in an area that won't stand out first.
