5 Year Warranty???

Some guys are using copper sulfate and a sealer. Some are pro rating it and some are just counting on the customer never calling back for whatever reason. I use to have three year warranty now offer five. I sell extended warranty if I get a call back so I don't leave empty handed. If they call you back near then end of the warranty period they obviously see the value of the warranty and will buy extension. If they call you in the middle then you might not have done as well as you could have use the opportunity to ask for referrals or other work.

Its a 5 year limited liability prorated warranty. Not a maintenance or guarantee. Backed by 50,000 cleaned roofs.

Why you haven't cleaned 15/20 roofs a day 365 days a year for over 10 yrs come on, you must be lame.
 
I think its 500 but when you get old you hit the keys a few more times when you shake. LOL:rotflmao1:
 
I dont get the purpose of calling it a warranty. If its a maintenance program ok, but warranty no. When a truck company tells me my truck is waranted for 100,000 miles and the thing brakes at 80,000 they fix it. no pro rated discusion. Im just not getting it. So when you guys get a call back on your warranty in four years on a $500 roof cleaning you charge the customer $100 bucks? WTF, I would throw you off my property. How do you sell this?

So you guys are going around giving 5 year warranties are you will be charging them a pro-rated fee if they call within the 5 years??? Good luck with those law suits.... Your ads say NOTHING about a "limited or pro-rated" warranty, only the words "5-year warranty"

They fix it Jim, but they don't give you a brand new truck. I offer a one thousand day warranty if someone gets the whole roof cleaned. We will return and treat any stains visible from the ground once per year at no charge at the clients request. Spot cleaning only. I have offered, at customers request, a ten year warranty that would be pro-rated after year one. That would cover a complete recleaning. Most of my customers realize that it would be unreasonable to ask a janitor to guarantee how long a mopping would last. Almost all of my customers get the verbal guarantee that they will save thousands of dollars by having me clean their roof vs. paying to have it replaced.Edit:apparently the iPad determined that no paragraphs were needed in this post.

The 5 year warranty is taught by AC Lockyear who owed a roof cleaning company in Florida and has cleaned over 50,000 roofs with this system. Our 5 year limited liability prorated warranty is explained to every customer and is written on the back of their invoice that they sign before work is commenced.

Marcus, if you are telling the customer up front, in writing, that it is fine. Your advertising isn't saying limited warranty though....kind of like a bait and switch....but that's ok
 
In AC's words it is important to note the difference between a guarantee and a waranty. AC states:

The American consumer has been programmed to expect a warranty on everything. If it doesn't have a long enough one you can even purchase an extended warranty. TVs have warranties, lawn mowers have warranties, dishes have warranties. However these warranties are not guarantees. A guarantee is much different than a warranty.

There is no way to garuntee a roof cleaning where an area of moss has developed ,where trees overhang the roof, bad pitched gutters,where you dont know if the gutters get cleaned ? Bad roof design and drainage . You have take control of the prevent defense and offer gutter cleaning and a periodic maintenance squirt. You can maintain a roof in 3 years with a house wash solution mix. I have a few I rinse down and blow off every year because of the slope with hot water. Decomposing matter from trees , landscaping dust, pollen and other debris that collect on the roof attract molds and builds up. I find it easier to blow it off with a little pressure and hot water ( not too hot). These are large walkable roofs I do annually.
 
We call ours a warranty. What that means is that if the stains come back, you can call us and for no charge we will come by and make the stains go away again. Its like our house wash warranty, if they upgrade to the wax, and any mildew returns in 2 years, they can call us and for no charge we will come back and make the mildew go away.

Exactly my fear in giving a long warranty. It could put you out of business because of it.

I have no problem with someone offering a 5 year or heck, a 10 year warranty as long as you don't charge the customer to come back and touch up the spots. I DO have an issue with people stating a 5 year warranty and then charging them a pro rated rate to come back out within that time frame. That is deceptive advertising....actually flat out lying
