5.7L chevy gas ????

kory are they cabovers or pickup style. If they are the cabover gmc's the trans is alot beefier than the pickups. I dont think you'll have a problem with the 5.7 liter chevy they should last you at least 200,000 miles with proper maintainence. Then you rebuild them for another 150,000 miles. but I would still go diesel if you can.

On this I beg to differ The rating 1500 2500 and 3500 arent just for looks those are the ratings for what the limit of towing is for as far as springs go they are important if not then the 1 ton would have the same springs as a 1/2 ton supsension affects braking as well not only that but there are diffrent trannies, axel sizes, not to mention splines and gears so no a typical chevy wont pull anything you put behind it go ahead and take your 1/2 ton truck to do a 1 tons job and tell me how you make out?

With out getting into a pissing match here, The tongue weight, way the trailer is loaded, screw it. way to much typing to get into, Not worth the debate.
