5.7L chevy gas ????

cheap to buy parts and engine swaps are easy for the 5.7. Many different versions of the 5.7 out there and you can almost pull parts from anywhere you man need one.

I Drive a 96 z71 with the 5.7 Vortec I love it parts are cheap and the motors are dime a dozen Milage isnt any worse than my wifes 01 explorer with a v6 They are strong motors The 350 will probably outlive the rest of the truck On my year the trannies are 4l60e and they are the weakest link in the truck but thats 1/2 ton I dont know what they put in the others

Chevy 350 is probably the 4th best gas motor ever made, Definitely the best V8. The top 3 ever made were all in line straight 6's. If you have any doubt as to there durability, just look at what race car drivers use on dirt tracks. It isn't a Ford or Chrysler product.

Love my straight 6

Im Not Sure I haven't towed anything like that with mine yet But it would depend on what the trucks rated for as far as springs and gearing is it 1/2 ,3/4 or 1 ton gearing and springs are diffrent in all of them

I have one in a 3/4 ton with 180K on it still runs great. We pull the 16ft trailer with two hot water skids, 525 gallon tank, 4 hose reels, tool boxes, 2 35 gallon soap tanks, all kind of stuff. It's heavy and the truck pulls it like it's not even back there. I love the truck. Gets 13mpg pulling all that weight.

Anything can pull anything if the gearing is right.

A typical chevy truck with a 350 will pull pretty much any tag along trailer you are likely to use. It does not really matter what the truck springs are.

First thing to think about. The difference between a C10 C20 C30 etc is the carrying capacity in it's bed. Suspension differences, gearing, and most important of all is braking capacity! These all dictate the truck load capacity.

Trailer capacity is limited by suspension frame size, coupler, and axle / axles with brakes or with out brakes. Brakes are key to every thing when towing. If I remember right, any trailer over 3,000 lbs is required to have trailer brakes.

The hitch size is also important. class 1, 2, 3, 4, 5th wheel, It goes on and on. If you are not familiar with towing, get a education at a trailer shop before you buy. Also check with your state dmv as commercial combination vehicles require a cdl. I do not recall the specifics of these rules. I know my class A covers it all. You better check though. Also, if your truck and trailer exceed 10,000 lbs, in some states there are stricter requirements than others. (( TONY, that last comment was for you)).

There is a reason for that, and it is not because the Ford's and Chrysler's are not reliable, well, okay, maybe the Chrysler. Look at comparative costs of parts. Chevys are SO much less expensive, thus making it less expensive to get high HP out of an engine. That, couple with the fact that it is probably what most started out with as young street racers.

Of course, my experience is purely empirical. I have blown up nearly EVERY chevy motor I have owned, in a relatively short life cycle. The Fords, no problem. Maybe it is my driving style.

The real reason is that you can fix a Chevy motor with a screwdriver, rock and a 9/16 wrench. If that won't do it, you need a bigger rock.

How many miles are these trucks good for? I found a couple flat beds I might pick up. I would jump on them if they were diesel but gas motors dont last as long. Any Input?

The Chevys flatbeds I have had were great, they did get better miles than fords. My fords had monster motors...

They all did fine, Chevy ford are fine. Stay clear of Dodge, Dodge the Dodge.

On this I beg to differ The rating 1500 2500 and 3500 arent just for looks those are the ratings for what the limit of towing is for as far as springs go they are important if not then the 1 ton would have the same springs as a 1/2 ton supsension affects braking as well not only that but there are diffrent trannies, axel sizes, not to mention splines and gears so no a typical chevy wont pull anything you put behind it go ahead and take your 1/2 ton truck to do a 1 tons job and tell me how you make out?
