Can someone out here tell my why anyone would do a Dairy Queen for 150 bucks? I just don't understand. I am brand new to Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning, I've been pressure washing since 1982.
I bid 250.00 he owner thought I was nuts!

Thanks Chris

I did a franchise a couple weeks ago and made the most money on one job since I started $$$$$, But let me say that the other company that came from way out had a schedule to do his and several others in the area for less than 200.00. O the reason I got the call to do his was they just wanted me to clean up around so they can have the fire ext company recharge the system after the fire that went on in the hood and also melted the fan , and after firing the last guy that did it. GO FISH !!!!
one thing I have learned in a short period is dont give yourself away cheap, thats the reputation you will end up with.
(PS) pictures of that comming soon, so be prepared cover your A..
mikey:)

I thought I was the only one

StormChaser,

I have had that problem since I first started. The other guy in my area has all the local restaurants here. Well most will give me a chance to bid I have found out that my price is almoast twice as high as his. Get this I bid on a Dairy Queen to clean it every 4 months I bid $275 and they told me that the other guy was doing it for $125. Go figure I don't see how he is making money. I also bid on an oriental place one time. It was so dirty they had to take out the filters because they were not leting smoke pass through. I bid $700. The ther guy was cleaning it for $250. Oh I was mad. But I hung in there now slowly but surely I am picking up his accounts becasue people are not likeing his work. And he is not very dependible. My advise to you is to stick to your guns and hang in there they will come on sooner or later. Hang tough I've been there you are not alone in the fight against the low ballers.

I agree, you may have to look harder to find work but it is out there, if that guy can charge so little it is most likely because he is doing so little, and probably working alone, or even worse as a second job. Most of those guys don't last long. what I do when someone tells me that someone else is doing it for less than it would cost me to do it, is politley ask them if they like his work, is he insured, and do they know that he is cleaning everything. Most people will say yes to those questions even if they don't really know, but I have planted the seed in there head, and maybe they will look closer the next time.
Don't get discouraged, and don't sell yourself short. You didn't get in this business to scrape buy on the bare minumum, so don't charge that.

I CLEANED A VENT-A-HOOD THIS MORNING FOR A LITTLE OLD LADY WHO OWNS A HAMBURGER PLACE BY THE CITY PARK, IN EXCHANGE FOR $130 WORTH OF HAMBURGERS , THE JOB TOOK 1HR, IT WAS A LITTLE 5FT HOOD.

DOSE ANYONE REMENBER POPEYE THE CARTOON! (WIMPY) LOL...

I DO CHARGE MORE IT JUST DEPENDS WERE THERE AT ON THE MONEY SCALE!

DOMINIC, ON THE ORIENITAL $700 MAYBE CHEAP ON SOME!

Nice job!
Did you eat all $130 worth at once or did you take some home?
Are all three nozzles from one fire system in that little hood?
PS. did you mention to the owner that the fan she has is not rated for grease exhaust?

Let alone the electrical-what is wrong with the fan?

David

From the picture it appears to be one that blows directly onto the roof surface not an upblast fan.

GRANT,

I'LL JUST GO BY AND GET A BURGER WHEN I WONT IT OR MY KIDS AND WIFE GO BY AND GET BURGER WHEN THEY WONT!

SHE WOULD PROBLY GO OUT OF BUSINESS BEFORE SHE WOULD REPLACE THE FAN.

THE ONLY REASON SHE HAD IT CLEANED IS THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT MAID HER .

SHE DIDNT HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT THE PERSON THAT INSTALLED THE VENT, SHE KEEP SAYING *&^%)RIGED THAT *&^)% VENT.

That took a good eye-I overlooked it!

Nice call

David:eek: .

Seen em all!
Cleaned em all!
The owner was right about "*&^%)RIGED THAT *&^)% VENT"
but it works and at least now it is clean!
Good deal on the burger barter deal!

Gladly!

The fire system looks to be an Amerex system. Is the fusible link holder really fastened to the fan? The wiring should be outside of the duct. Not is the wire not rated for the heat and grease, but I suspect the hole where the wire comes through is not liqued tight. When the duct catches fire, the grease on the outside of the duct will ignite, running down the outside of the duct. If the exhaust fan does blow the exhaust grease down onto the roof, it may be allowed if it was installed before the change in codes. The problem with blowing the grease onto the roof is two-fold. One, the grease can deteriate the roof and more important, when the duct catches on fire, the fire will be blown onto the roof. Fire impinging on the greasy roof will be seriious. This is something that the automatic fire suppression system is not designed to protect.
