13h.p. pump

I pick up a used 13h.p. honda with a 4g.p.m. belt driven pump a few weeks ago. What would be the max g.p.m. pump I could put on it? I'm not at all concerned about p.s.i.

You could put a 26gpm pump on it but may only make 100 psi.

I believe it is GPM x PSI = X then Divide X by 1100
so 3500PSI x 4GPM =14000 then 14,000 Divided by 1100 = 12.72 so about 13hp

I don't know of a chart but the formula I use is GPM X PSI divided by 1100 = HP.

With 13hp direct drive pump (5.5 gpm) I can get an actual measured 5.3 gpm @ 2400 psi. and can bump it up to about 2800 before I start getting nervous.
With 11 hp belt drives we get 4.2 @ 2000 psi and can bump it up to 2400 without any apparent problem.

What model pump is currently on the unit? For simplicity's sake, if you stay with the same model series but a different flow, it'll bolt right up where the old one came off without any need for modifications.

I like the way you think Russ. It's a right handed Giant the model # is worn off, the serial # on the pump is 0425 not sure if that will help.

That's a little different from the pdf I posted, your crankcase cover is almost flat where the one on the pdf is extended. I'll research it more and see if I can find the right one.

Russ, I recieved the parts last night and plumbed it up this morning. Now when I let go of the trigger the engine seems to rev way too high. Kind of scary to here it rev that high.

It is the 13h.p. GX390 engine. This is the first time I have ran this machine. Is this normal?

No. First make sure the previous owner hasn't unscrewed the throttle stop screw and pulled the lever all the way to the left. Next get ahold of the rod going across the top of the fan cover and check for free movement. Sometimes the carb throttle plate can get stuck wide open if it has sat for a long period. If it's neither one of those, you can try to readjust the governor. Call me if it gets that far, and I'll walk you through it. If that doesn't fix it, it's probably an internal problem.

Thanks Russ, it was the governor that needed to be adjusted. Purrs like a kitten now!
