I want to check/replace the brushes on a 12v becket motor. I was wondering about where to open it, is there any springs that will pop out, is there a trick to reassembling etc. Any help or links appreciated. Thanks
there may be brush access openings on the side of the blower motor depending on the type you have, they usually take a flat head screwdriver to open, There should be springs or some mechanism that will provide pressure on the brushes.
I've spoken to you on the phone quite a bit and you put up with a lot of questions. I didn't notice the openings - its a becket sdc - but I hope they're there. Do you think I could get brushes that fit at a local alternator-generator-motor shop? Do you carry the beckett kit?
A lot of those Beckett motors don't have the screw caps. You'll probably have to pull it apart like a Briggs starter and shove the shaft out along with the cover plate. Getting them out isn't a huge deal, but getting them in kind of sucks. You have to assemble the brushes and the rotor on the cover plate, then feed that up between the magnets, which are going to try to pull it in before you're ready to get the cover all the way on, which snatches it from between the brushes. Then you start all over again.
A piece of PVC pipe, maybe 1" - 1 1/4", a foot or so long, clamped in a vice. Slide the main housing down over it, put the end of the shaft in the pipe pointing down, push down hard on the end cover so it can't move, and slide the housing up over it.
