Our battery goes dead when the burner is on. I know the machine is not charging properly. A mechanic told me the stator is probably the problem. Either it is too small or it is too old. He told me to find an aftermarkewt that was bigger and could charge better. Any ideas.

Is it a Honda? Their regulators burn out frequently. It is a little grey box with fins.

Vanguards fry regulators on a regular basis, too. I wouldn't think the stator went bad...only seen a few that had. Let me know which engine you have, and I'll let you know how to troubleshoot the charging system.

How much is a regulator? We have a vangaurd and honda

I love my 12 volts. But I don't seem to have the problems that some have with theirs.

I upgraded to Optima Yellow Tops for my new rig this year. They seem to offer really good starting and deep cycle power. They can recharge quickly and can take a lot of deep power drains without missing a beat. They are a gel battery and are completely sealed. They best part is you can mount them in any position and they have a high vibration tolerance. The major draw back to these bad boys is the price thats around $189. Hopefully, they hold up nothing worse than battery issues on a job at 2 am.
