Can you price to High?

Al, yes I target higher end demographics which of course include areas with larger homes. I worry about being busy for busy's sake. Its tempting for me to take calls and chase every job but that's just my ego. My ego is quickly spoiled when the paycheck doesn't match so I try to stay detached and just set minimums. You seem like a great guy, Al, and if you are going to be at any of the round tables (SC, LA, or KY) I look forward to meeting you there.

Ken,
I would enjoy meeting you as well, and some of the other folks that I have talked with.
Just another note on yesterdays new job...someone called for a small front porch cleanup, I told her 125 min and I thought that would discourage her, she said to come on out late yesterday afternoon after it cooled a bit to do a quick job, ended up making 550.00 by showing her what it looks like cleaned,
I actually had to finish by flashlight (since I got there so late)on her parking pads, heavy soaps and hot water.
The best part of it, she was pleased I would not quit until I was finished and she wants it done every year now!!

Great job, Al. Your customers are lucky to have you and I mean that. Now know that I will spend the rest of time trying to convince you to raise your prices. If you know me at al, you probably already know that though ;-)

Do you do much commercial and flat work?
That is where I am focusing a lot of my attentention and I could use any help on pricing in that area, I know its all on the boards....but if any of you guys want to share national average pricing on some of the major store fronts such as fast food restaurants, upscale restaurants, corner drugstores, ect...
Most of these are roughly the same size and I would think would have average that could be used as a starting point.
Hear I am wanting to charge the max, because they have been known and used to paying way to low.

So you guys let me know now...so I won't get any more black eyes from you guys !;)

Al I have probably done maybe 30,000 s.f of flatwork in my life and that includes resi and commercial. I have started to assemble some things to chase more as this area is loaded with work. I charge $.10 but on large jobs I could stay profitable at $.05

I Lost a job today because of price today!!
Got a call to do a est and he said he was going to be there, so I went over with rig, no one came to door, called that evening and told him I was out there.
I quoted over phone 200. he said he had a quote for 175, asked if I could beat it, asked him who quoted him, says he did not remember.
I told him I would match the price but I'm not into playing against one another.
Funny thing was he said his house was only 5 yrs old and never been washed and said in another couple years it would be worth 200 to be cleaned but not now. House was covered in mildew, mold and dirt.
This is probably one of the few times if he called back.....I would turn him down if he called back.
